I have been rather :( lately regarding disco bookings. Pocket money for the summer didn't look too good ;) until today!

Come back after my maths exam to find a load of answer messages and emails.

Football presentation, wedding, 70's night, Motown/soul/reggae night, 50th Birthday and a 13th Birthday!
Then a drama presentation night and then a leaving party, both of which I'm doing free of charge as I used to attend the drama school, and the leaving do is for good friends.

I'm on a real :D now. This wasn't what you folk call "willy waving" but I wondered if anyone else has noticed the increase? They are all for july and august which is very last minute.

I used to spend around £100 a month on google, and to be fair, I got a ton of gigs from it. My website has been down and so has google for months now, hence why I haven't been booked up for the summer.

All those events I have been booked for are from word of mouth, which is what I'm really pleased about.

Get yourself a good website. (mine costs £10 a month) and then if you can, advertise on google. At one point you could type in:

"mobile disco Nottingham" and my name would be bang at the top, highlighted in yellow. That would cost me around £1 every time someone clicked on it which is just extausionate.

On Google you can select, for example, people only in your area to be able to see your add. You can also set a monthly budget (min £30) so you don't go over board....Google Ad Words...worth a try :)

I had a similar thing; No enquiries or bookings and then I had about 20 enquiries in 1 day! which has ended up with me being booking every Friday and Saturday for most of this month, July and August. Things are definitely looking up. :D

Is there a minimum amount per month for Google AdWords? I use it and just put a bit more money on it when it starts getting low, usually about £10 - £15 a time. It definitely works for me as I have had loads of enquiries and bookings coming through Google.

Ive noticed this year that people are leaving a shorter period of time between booking the disco and the function date. Its seems to be fits and bursts my end too.

I only use google adwords, its effective but costs you a fair bit of money to get the most out of it so be prepared to land out a fair bit first before you start to recoup the cost. Naturally like any good website make sure your megatags are in good order as this is not only improve your ranking on google but other search engines too.

My enquiry time frame is very sporadic, for example in the last couple of days I've had two enquiries (now bookings) for this August and a few days before that I've had enquiries (also now bookings) for August and September 2010.

I'd like to be a little busier but work is steady at the moment so not too worried.

google don't have to pay anyone to do that, Your competitor could sit there doing it if they wanted to

Fair play to Charlie and well done on the bookings. I can't actually say the same for me at the moment which is worrying but I aint going to lie and make out that I am booked non-stop until the end of the year (that's not being sarcastic at all by the way). I have a few well paid weekends coming up which should cover some of the nights I am off but I would rather be working (obviously).

I agree that there will be last minute bookings coming in as people leave it late. This time last year, July and August were easily my busiest period and I didn't do any sundays. This year I have to say that if I didn't have my residencies (which pay half of what my usual fee is), and a scattering of bookings....well, I'd be looking at a daytime job too, something which I may HAVE to do at some point if things stay the way they are but that's definitely a last resort.

I don't think I am doing anything wrong at all. The website works and so do the adverts (most of the time), it's just that I have noticed the enquiries have gone quiet.

i was steady up to Xmas then from then to now nothing there is definitely a recession on have tried directly approaching poss clients all to no avail! Any tips welcome.

I don't know why, but it's suddenly gone mad here. I've had 5 enquiries in the last couple of days, which is at LEAST 4 more than I'd normally expect in that period at this time of the year.

Not only that, 2 of them have turned into bookings (both at the same venue by coincidence), which again is a much higher conversion rate than I'm used to, ie 40% compared to my normal rate of around 15%.

Well it's all gone quiet here, I had a few phonecalls a few weeks ago that led to some bookings, but I recently changed my google maps profile to use the landline rather than the mobile number and my business seems to have disappeared from googlemaps altogether, and I'm getting no calls.

Frustrated.

Yesterday was manic!

Mondays is usually the enquiry day but yesterday Sunday I had 5 enquirys (4 email 1 phone) and managed to convert 1 email and the phone enquiry :D

So far today had 3 email enquirys :eek:

I had a call from the Post Office though. A salesman is coming to my home tomorrow to have a chat regarding advertising on there plasma screens in the post office. So when people cue they have adverts etc displaying companies. They want to compile a 1 minute video advert of the disco to play on their TV screens...if that makes sense? :)

I have as funny feeling that an advertising budget of more than £1,000 a year can be MUCH better spent than having ads on a tv screen in the post office.
