12" Speakers - Which to get

I am looking at buying a pair of 12" Passive speakers 250w @ 8 ohms.

The 15s are too big to cart around, and are in the shed for that reason!

I have been looking at so far :- NJD (various ones)
- Rhino
- Peavey Pro
- Wharfedale

Obviously you don't have to select from that list, can reccomend or suggest any pair - And YES before anyone asks, I will be using these in My House for the time being.

Max, I have heard the Wharfedale EVP range and to be honest they aren't bad for the money, Are you going to be using subs with these 12" speakers when you are out on the road?

Hi Steve,
I shall just be using them full range, powered by the W Audio DA 800.
Mainly to use in the study, garden, or the local pub if I dare set foot through the door with them. (Ideal for Karaoke etc)

.When deciding on which speaker think about the driver,what kind is it,the chineese ones are not that great.I know that the njd ones use eminence and celestion drivers which are very good.

If you got for the peavey pros I'd get the matching bass bins if you did decide to gig with them unless your in a small room.

We are unsure if max uses a single or double bed for his deckstand ;)

I have just googled the spec of that amplifier and it is only rated at 250wrms @ 8r, therefore rather underpowered for driving 250wrms 8 ohm speakers, to be honest.

I would probably be looking at a secondhand pair of EV SX300, they come up on ebay regularly and are a lovely box. I'd then flog the old prolight amplifier and pick up a secondhand branded amplifier from ebay, perhaps a QSC or a small Crown/Crest - there are some real bargains to be had at the moment.

That combination would give the start of a proper PA system which;
(a) would hold it's value if you wanted to sell it at a later date
(b) would have a useful role in a larger system if you decide to expand at a later date
(c) if you buy wisely, might not cost you any more than a pile of budget junk will new, which you'll struggle to beg cash convertors to give you £50 for in 18 months time

I have a couple of 'T' Bars, and occasionly put one light on whilst DJing just to give the room a bit of colour. This is downstairs, so no beds involved. :confused:

Have you thought about simply getting a 'surround sound' system (designed for tv). My son uses a sony one which has more than ample output for a house (unless you live in a mansion) and personally think it produces a nicer sound.

I Agree :)
My Friend has one in the conservatory and we ran Karaoke on it, using my numark mixer, sounded fine.

I would like a couple of commerical speakers though as I want the wattage, and may use them in different places etc in the future.

The main idea for getting them is so I can actually keep them in the house, I have had complaints from other 'residents' about the size of the 15s.

I am looking at buying 2 X 12" Pro Audio Speakers.

I do not know which ones to buy, so am therefore asking opinions of other forum members.
