Not for a wedding but I did one for a group of special needs kids and was told no lights.

Seems odd for a wedding though

Yep, did a christening not so long ago, where they specified they wanted no lighting.

Pic while we were still setting up (and yes, the cables were tidied up, you can see him still doing it :p , and the starcloth was sorted too on the Deckstand Booth Pro)

That particular event, the person booked me for his girlfriends parents. He told me the wrong venue about 10 miles from where I should have been. Ended up getting into the right place, just as guests were arriving, so was not best pleased, I hate setting up in a venue with the public in there :bang:

Suffice to say, I cheered up for the gig :D

Ive had it once, where the room was full of epileptics. I offered par cans etc, and even met with, and showed them. But they had had bad experiences with other djs saying the lightw would be fine, and they wernt, so they didnt take a chance. I managed the starcloth, on static and thats it :)

I did that wedding only 2 weeks ago with very minimal lighting and all had to be static. Looked very different to my usual setup but bride and groom seemed very happy.

Did a christmas party once at an indian restaurant where there was no lights requested. I think this was more to do with the space restrictions than anything else, though. The guests still seemed to have a good time (thanks to loads of alcohol being served!).

had to do a wedding last month in a local pub two days before it was due to take place the bride phone to say thaey had to cancel the disco as thanks to the miserable nieghbour the venue had lost their entertainment licence. I spoke to the local council to see if there was anything we could do about it, to cut a long story short because the bride had officially cancelled my services and by inviting me as an official guest I was still able to help her out and only taking a 100watt amp (naormally used for my monitor speaker) and CD players no lights no mic felt totally exposed. But the bride & groom were extremely greatful for everything I had done for them.

I'm a bit confused by this.

Are you saying that a venue with no entertainment licence can still have a disco, as long as the amp is only 100 watts and the DJ has no lights & no mic?

Seriously, it appears to me that the DJ would have to be on the guest list, and it would have to be a " Not for payment " gig to qualify. I've cornered that market working for Justin. :D :D :D

Excalibur is right after my chat with the local council that was the only route to provide any sort of entertainment. I was told that if people are attending because there is entertainment of any sort and that is their only reason for attending then the venue requires a licence regardless of volume, because it was a wedding the guest are there for the B&G not for the entertainment. The only reason I mentioned the size of the amp was because after checking with the landlord this was the size of their background system which they were still entitled to use regardless of function or not.
