What amp for my new speakers?

OK, ive bought a 1200w sound system from classd.
Its from the following link:

Now i need an amp or maybe 2 to power these and the subs.

As ive read it, the tops are 250wrms and the subs 350w rms at 8ohms.

As my budget is now getting smaller what do people think of the skytec range?
The ones ive seen are around £100 and they give out 500wrms at 8ohms. If i get 2 of these would this do the job?

If not, then on a budget what would you recommend?

Also i think im gonna need a crossover so what would you get for the cheapest price?

My advice use the built in passive crossover in the subs, get something like this amp it looks like a good deal to me.

Then get a secondhand amp as back up for £50/£100 later on, forget using 2 amps and powered crossover, not really worth the trouble with those speakers.

As far as I know if you connect the two speakers in parallel, using the built in crossover you will get 4 ohms, the amp below will give you 450 watts per channel at 4 ohms.
I don’t know if its better than American DJ but it may be worth a look.

I have the American audio and it's not a bad amp! I would buy two though if your budget can afford. One for the tops, then one for the subs. The American Audio has some great setting s for subs, you change quite a few things round...signal rating etc :)

I don't normally disagree wildly with you, but I'd say that an active crossover with these is well worth it if you can.

The built in crossovers work fine.

Until you try the same rig with an active crossover and a second amp. If you don't possess/wish to buy, then find a mate with them. You won't believe the improvement.

No way Jose. :( :( :( :( Can't be done. :( :( :( Post #2 is mine, sorry no links. You want 500w RMS per side at 8ohms. One amp that size will run that rig fine. Two the same with something like this:

will be better. Sorry that the best solution will set you back £600 :( :( :(

Go for one amp at £250 and work from there.

Peavey pv1500 is pretty good. Used one myself with no trouble.

I got a numark one which is much better in all fairness for 125 off ebay. Keep an eye out on there if on budget

Funny you should mention those - I've just bought a pair of T.Amp e800's, have you come across them before? One of 'em is bust at the moment (so I won't tell you how little I paid for them :D ), but I'm trying to work out if it's worth repairing and using the pair or if I should just have a stab at eBaying them and buy something better. Bear in mind I'm driving JBL PRX115 (250w RMS per channel) and PRX118S (350w per channel) speakers (which by my reckoning, they're well and truely under-rated to do).

All opinions welcomed :)

From amp into subs then out of subs into full range speakers and as I said before don't even worry about active crossovers until you get a lot more experience and get every thing else sorted out :)

I agree with the previous advice, just use one amp for now as it'll be the cheapest/easiest configuration.

Just to clear this up though:



a. with one amp using built in crossover on subs

Simplest/Cheapest/Lightest/Easiest configuration



b. two amps (Im guessing using one amp bridged for subs?)

You'd have two amps, with four output channels and four speakers - so you'd just use one channel per speaker and either feed both amps the same signal and let the passive crossover in the subs filter the high frequencies off the subs.

Alternatively you could feed the amps via an active crossover (to pass only high frequencies to the two channels feeding the tops and only bass frequencies to the two channels feeding the bins).

You'd only use the amp bridged if you decided to only take one sub out with you - but as you're only going to have one amp, I won't go into this :)


c. one amp using additional crossover

If you only have one amp, then you don't need an additional crossover because you don't have enough channels on one amp to feed the tops/bins individually so you can't use an active crossover, and the bins already have passive crossovers built in (so no point in adding another passive crossover).

I noticed on the subs that its just got an in and an out terminal (speak on). Does this mean its got a crossover built inside the cab itself?

Accoriding to Class D's spec's, yes - did you get any documentation with them to explain how the connectors are wired? If it's got "In" and "Out", I'd expect the High output from the internal crossover to go to the Out? I.e. With a single amp you connect your Amp to the In, and then connect your tops to the Out.

Oh yuss. :D In the old days, we'd have put a couple of turns of tape on the bottom of the poles to take up the slack. I just sit my tops on the subs for two reasons.
1) Big tops, small subs.
2) I can't remember who has my poles. :confused: ( Actually I can, can't I White Van Man? :D :D )

I know theres prob not alot i can do about it and as of yet im still waiting on getting an amp so i cant try them out yet either.Hoping to get one end of next week.
BUT i was hoping i wouldnt have to put up with putting "tape" around the bottom of the poles as its a bit unprofessional!!! And as they are brand new i wasnt expecting that. Or am i just being picky?!?!?!
