Does anybody on here do any share dealing?
I "dabble" with small amounts, more for fun than anything else, and I'm grinning from ear to ear today because half my money is in this lot: -
http://www.google.co.uk/finance?q=AFE
Who are up almost 30% today alone (and I bought them at 4.5p a while ago).
If anyone else does this kind of thing....they're said to be hitting 10p+ by Thursday so perhaps still a good buy* at the current price :)
If you do do this - who do you use and what are the fees like? I didn't look around much as I was recommended Hargreaves Lansdown (http://www.h-l.co.uk/) and so just went with them....
*DISCLAIMER - The value of investments can go down as well as up. I don't really have much of a clue. Don't come crying to me if it all goes down the drain. Don't invest what you can't afford to lose! ;)

Iweb which is part of Halifax is who I use (now Lloyds I guess).
They seem fairly easy to use, and its about £10 a trade

Didn't go quite as high as I was hoping for this week, so I "topped up" while the price was still in single figures. Big things are tipped to happen this week :)
Did you buy in?

I've never been keen on shares. They are more for gamblers (which I'm not), because although you have the potential to make big gains, you also have the potential to make big losses.
For example, when I left the bank, I decided to sell all my shares. I got about £16 each. If I'd held onto them, they'd now be worth 37p each.

Hmmmm...I think that's a slight understatement (certainly in MY case).
"The value of shares can go down by 98% overnight" is more accurate.

If that's what floats your boat, then good luck to you!

Yes, that should be "early this week" and if it's as expected there'll have to be a "significant adjustment" in the valuation of the company. If they take a dip below 8.0 this morning I'm gambling my holiday fund on it :)

I agree about taking the odd risk in life, it's just not something I'm prepared to do with my finances.
Maybe that's why I'll be in a position to retire in a few years.

wensleydale, I hope you weren't too greedy and got out at 10+!
I was...and ended up chickening out today, not making much at all. Would have liked to have kept in there as I think it will definitely (at least) double again within the next 6 months but the thought of no holiday scares me!

So Marc you put n 4.5p and got out with 10p??? Is it worth making 5.5p in two weeks? Or am i missing summink :o

i was greedy- still got them, although still showing a profit.
i didnt put a lot in so for it to be worthwhile i was holding out for something big- if i'd been at home yesterday i probably would have sold at 12p but thats the downside of working in an office.
i'll leave it and see what happens over the next few months.....

The thing is, I am in all day and have Google Finance open in a browser window on my second monitor when I've got something I want to watch...I watched this stock rollercoaster over the last few days and decided enough was enough, I couldn't take it any more!

You still got these, Rich? I hung on to some, and the price has almost doubled since the last post (around 7p - 13p) :)
Seriously :Censored: off, though, because I was given a tip about PMG (http://www.google.co.uk/finance?q=LON%3APMG) on 22nd October when they were 7.5p (they hit 19p today and still rising, I reckon). I seriously considered but didn't, not long ago they were under 2p and I feared they'd go back in that direction :bang:

Yes- although if I am honest I had completely forgotten about them.
I moved house in July so things like this have been pretty low priority.
They're now pretty much double what I paid for them so I may sell half keep half and see what happens.
Thanks for the prompt.

I've only just seen this shares thread. I bought some Falkland Oil and Gas shares nearly 6 years ago I think, can't remember the date but at 48p they seened a good buy after I did MOR. When Oil was discovered by Rockhopper in the Falklands they went up to 160p when i sold before buying in again at 89p after they dropped. They are 104p today and I wait for the next big rise when I shall sell most again. Got a bit in Desire Petroleum in the Falklands and just waiting to see if the next 2 wells, Dawn and Jacinta, will find oil.
It sure is a big gamble though.

I ended up looking at Desire through PMG (which, btw, has doubled again since my last post!). Looks like Jacinta came up empty, might still be worth a punt though

Well done you. Looks like you are in for a wee profit there.

Desire petroleum, DES, are worth watching as they are 11.75 today and have been dropping for a long while now. http://www.lse.co.uk/ShareChat.asp?ShareTicker=DES
Des have not got the money for more wells and may sell their share in Sea Lion IMO to Rockhopper for at least 90p per share.
Worth buying into IMO as they found oil in commercial quantity which is part of Rockhopper Sea Lion find. 300 million barrels there in total and should be in production 2017. http://www.iii.co.uk/articles/57943/rockhopper-eyes-first-oil-sea-lion-2017

I haven't topped up again, but I do still have some AFE shares. Not many, though, so not losing any sleep over their recent performance. Normally with the low they're at just now I'd consider topping up, but all the recent news is so bad I think they're at risk of going to the wall and it'd be money down the drain...so I'll leave it as it is. AFE gave me a good run in the past, though :)

DES have been on my watchlist for a while now, but I've never had the urge to buy. Others currently on my shortlist are Premier Foods (PFD) and Snoozebox (ZZZ), if only I had some spare money (just upgraded my PC!).

My bank almost convinced me to sink £10k into stocks and shares a few years ago.
I didn't but kept track of the markets and had I invested, I'd have lost several K within the space of a few months.
Needless to say that put me off investing in any shape or form. I'm quite happy for my money to sit safely gathering nothing in interest rather than letting some gimp in a Gucci suit gamble with it.

Typical...after writing this on Friday AFE have jumped and are currently 260% up (0.125 - 0.45 per share)...I guess I should have topped up after all!

Interesting.
I cashed half of mine out when they doubled so anything I have left is profit- seems to be a little volatile to say the least at the moment.
The email I got from my stockbroker suggested that the recent corporate action rendered the shares worthless- will be intrigued to see what happens over the coming weeks.

Hence the reason for yesterday's hike....news that the winding up petition was withdrawn broke around 1pm. News this morning (8am) that they're now selling everything to Blackdown Resources...whoever they are!
