Calling DJs in the East Sussex area

Hi folks!

Has anyone worked at the Mid Sussex Golf Club, Spatham Lane, Ditchling, East Sussex BN6 8XJ?

I have a wedding reception there in a few weeks, and am interested to know about access, sound limiters, parking etc.

Do you not visit venues prior to the event Rob ??
It is one of the most useful pre-event jobs I do. Even advise off other dj's can be misleading (as I once found out).

Trouble is I cant say well your lucky cos my competitors might have turned up without these documents and your evening would not have happened:(

Sometimes I'm touched by the Hope, Tust, Faith and general Optimism shown by people on here. I mean Alan obviously expects to make contact with somebody who knows the answers to his questions, and if not has an overwhelming urge to find out, find someone who does or generally help.

Many years ago, I worked in a very posh Hotel near Wakefield. ( Yes, one does exist) .

I rang beforehand for the full SP, and was told that I had to be there 9am to get the gear in easily. In I go, there's another set of gear in my way from last night, can I move it? NO! "It belongs to the other DJ. You musn't touch it". Other DJ turns up, nice lad, doesn't care a fig what I do with his kit, ( cos he expects me to treat it with respect) so there!

I set up the gear now, cos I'm there, and head off till start time, confident that the gear's already set up, doddle. Added to which, it appears the ceremony is in another room, so I could have turned up any time. :bang:

Phone rings, gear's apparently in wrong room! :eek: Back I go, speak to Manager, who is not happy. He's not happy???? Join the club mate. ;) I inform him the only accurate info I've had from the hotel has come from him. He asks me when I rang to enquire, and I give him the time to the second from my mobile's call log. :D Right pal, sort that one out. :p

Eventually, gear's in the right room, and shortly before kick off what arrives? Only a band with enough gear for Wembley! I build myself into their speaker stack in one corner, and have a thoroughly crap night. :(

This wouldn't normally be a problem, but it is in this case, as it's a wedding for a relative, I'm already giving a discount, and the reduced price does NOT include my time & expenses for an 80 mile round trip to visit the venue beforehand!

However as I dont work in that area regularly---in fact never

( I dont work regularly in any particular area or Hotel due to the nature of my business ) so I just take the documents with me anyway.

I just feel clients dont get any help from these kind of organisations--I was pleased to be able to pass on a booking to Corabar Steve last week because a Hotel had not told the customer/ DJ that they needed 5 million PLI--and the DJ had to be replaced by one that did:D

I meant to tell you--I hardly ever work in a Hotel.

No I dont rely on this for a living--it supplements my other income.

HOWEVER I will email my stuff next time I get booked in a Hotel ;)

I was booked 10 days ago:bang:

This only came to light today--the job is Monday and the Hotel INSISTED on PAT and PLI.

Must crack on;)
