Pioneer cdj's or Traktor Software

Your thoughts....Pioneer MK3 cdj's or Traktor Software on Laptop, for NightClub use.

Nightclubs would tend to have either CDJ 800 mkII's or CDJ 1000 mkIIIs in anyway.

Its purely an individual choice to how YOU want to DJ, not for us to tell you how you should DJ.

Do you own more CDs than MP3s?
Have you taken into thought a Pro Dub license if you use Traktor?
Would you use the clubs CDJs to control Traktor, or use a controller?
etc.......

I disagree Adam, most of the clubs i work have had denon Rack mounts, and that included a lot of Luminar clubs to. Ive found that cdjs are just starting to filter through to the smaller non-super style clubs. I know plenty of Luminar and syndicate resident djs who have to take in their own cdjs :)


Anyway.... I think that it depends on what the nightclub will allow.

B. Banded laptops with automix features
C. Banned djs ripping their dj box up and putting their own stuff in.

Personally i use Serato, and i found it better than Traktor (just personal preference), but where possible i use my cdjs with it.

Every club down here in cheltenham (well most Ive been in and worked in) have all had cdj1000's

One has a denon mixer but other than that its all pioneer

So has Redditch, Coventry, Stratford, Stafford, Bromsgrove, Weston & Birmingham to name a few places where I've played.

and sooooo many more...... as in my day job I sell them to the venues ;) From Truro to Edinburgh, I've supplied loads of replacements this year alone, meaning they've had some a fair old while to replace their battered ones.

One thing my denons is superior over them is Ive abused the cue button and its still as quick and sharp as it was brand new two years ago :D

Sticky cues are a nightmare! That's where hot cues come in handy!

Denons are really bad for their buttons too though. I've had both cues replaced in my HD 2500 now!

For club use I would say a laptop running Traktor would be ideal although the produb may make it too much of a financial outlay.

Its less to carry plus Traktor has all the features of what the CDJ's do plus more and most of the features are designed for club use anyway.

I hate playing my CD's on club players. I have seen the state of some of the DJ's collections I have worked with before and god knows what the messy cd's must do to the inside of the players :eek:

lol. I swear, round here, if you want cdjs you have to take your own. Some of the clubs have the djm range, but most still have formula sound, and they all run the Denon DN-D4500. This is the biggest club in west cumbria, look what its running

Not me, i just take the counterbalance weight off the back...but an older dj (whos doen it for years and years, and cant be told anything) says you have to have that weight on, and a penny is the best way forward.:bang:

Round here its mostly Denon decks and Allen & Heath mixers installed in the clubs.

That picture proves the audience really dont care what equipment is being used, they look like thy are enjoying it what ever :eek:

Yep. I like the Zone 92 Rotary but again, its a cost that they wont pay for round here. Your lucky to get a djm600 in some places, let alone an 800.

I had one manager once point out to me that the industry standard is Formular Sound mixer and Denon rackmount.....its only the top djs thst insist on Pioneer, and i can see their point. All the top djs ive came across have insisted on CDJ800s and DJM600s as a minimum spec.

Round Birmingham, its mainly CDJ 1000 mkII or mkIII with a random mixture of Vestax PCV 275s, DJM 600s & 800s, A&H Xone 62s, or if your lucky, in the main room @ Gatecrasher you've got DVJ 1000s and an SVM 1000 (which you have to sign a contract to say you won't button bash, drink in there, & if it breaks you pay :eek: ).

Thats because one of their main djs is a spot on turntablist and is known for his scratching :)

Lovely, Im moving down south. I know a guy from Carlisle (not Nigel) who does installs (ive worked for/with him before) and he always prices a decent spec, middle of the road and budget.....even the top clubs in cumbria go (generally) for budget (agains advice too)
