Once again I'm tempted to buy an iPhone thanks to the 3GS, and once again I don't think I'll bother because it'll be outdated in 6 months.

Kinda reminds be of the old washing powder adverts which always claimed "you can't get whiter - better than our last stuff (which at the time also claimed to be the whitest you can get)".

I'd bet if Apple said they won't release another for at least a year, a lot of people would buy the current one.

I'm on my second and I wouldn't say it was outdated. Rather that the competition are only just about catching up in some areas.

I mean outdated by the release of their own improved iPhones (rather than against the competition). Surely you must be slightly miffed if you're now stuck with a 3G and the 3GS is available? Even with the software update, there are some things only a 3GS (available Friday) will do...which you can't.

Well I won't be hurrying to upgrade to the 3GS until O2 make me a good offer - in the meantime I won't miss the electronic compass :o

The 3G has been around for 11 months; the original iphone I think 8 or 9 months. Shortly after the 3G was launched, O2 went back to v1.0 owners with an upgrade offer of basically £99 + reset the clock on the 18-month tie-in, which I think was very fair especially as I sold the v1 on fleabay for £200 :D

Fair enough, if they offer a good upgrade deal. Until then you'll also be missing out on the Fingerprint Resistant Screen (basically a coating making you more likely to drop it!), Hardware Encryption, Voice Control, 2x Speed Increase, Video Recording, 3 Megapixel Camera...:eek:

Well if they don't then I'm only 6 months from the end of my 18 so not too long to wait :cool: Actually apart from the claimed speed increase (to be proven!) I'm not fussed about any of the other upgrades so if I have to wait for v4 it wouldn't worry me.

Im soo glad I got a nokia. Never lets you down, lasts forever and lets face it all the fancy gadgets and apps you only use when its new. After awhile you go back to just ringing and texting.....

OK mine is all working but i can only see 1 new app that's the voice memo and mms other little things

i lost connection to my phone so i dont think my download is completed but when ever i synch it and reconnect phone it says i am using version 3.0 but i cant send picture messages....keeps saying failed. I think this is because i am missing something from download. I have restarted phone and reconnected and have tried to send pics but still saying failed. Can anyone help me????

some phones you need to call your phone provider to enable MMS messaging. Most often its downloading the settings to your phone but I wouldnt ring them tonight with this mass update going on.....

well I had two ericssons inbetween my current nokia and last one. Nokias are pretty basic but never had a issue with them...........


Well apart from my 5800 is all touchscreen keyboard so texting isnt as easy as it should be........ But hey least my phone works :ner:

18 Month contract and its in my Dads name. All I have to do is pay him each month. :sj:

Mrs VV let her folks borrow hers for a recent 10-day trip to Europe rather than let them lug a rather old and rather heavy laptop with them. After day 2 with a dumbphone she was pulling her hair out :)

Why is the Iphone so good?

I love gadgets myself, in fact Im a gadget geek but the iphone to me is just an mp3 player gaffa taped to a phone. I never had a need for an mp3 player as im either at work listening to tunes off my laptop, at a disco playing out using denon or my laptop, or at home in the evenings on here and listening to music off my laptop.....

Strangely the mp3 player is perhaps my least-used bit.

Apart from listening to the occasional bit of music whilst sitting on a boat or a train I've only ever used it to play out freshly-downloaded requests at gigs.

It has all that and more! In the summer you will be able to get a Tom Tom app and a car mount for it! All my emails are pushed to my phone, and plenty of games for that moment where you have nothing to do. :D

But thats quite basic features with other models. I already have a sat nav so never really tested mine but it has worked and connected when i used it when I first got the phone. Its got my work email on it too......

Im not having a go at anyone with an iphone. I just dont know why its so hyped when it does stuff other phones do?
