What a weekend

Bit late but at least i have posted my misfortunes :D

Anyway. The chaos all started last Friday with my school opening. PA outside all worked fine but when I set up for the concert in the evening it all went wrong :( No mics worked! I managed to trace it back to the stage inputs that go to a booth at the back of the hall.

On that Saturday I had a retirement do and went well apart from the latest version of AD MyDMX program not sending out the data to the dongle! Luckily I had the old version installed as well. EDIT: Also one of my Dynamos decided to take a suicide jump and the mirror wont move past 90 Degrees and my stand is on its last legs... Deck stand booth possibly. :p

Sunday... What a disaster! Lifeboat open day. Sounds good don’t it! Nope :( Set up at about 11AM for 12PM start, got my gazebo tent thingy up for the rain. Had some singers on and such for 2 hours then it started spiting on rain. Ran out and bagged my Mackies. It stopped for half an hour. Then poured it down! My tent thingy had no chance against it. I had to call my dad to come and get me. While he came down I managed to get a few umbrellas to protect my equipment luckily nothing got wet! Damp but not wet and it still all works. Packing up in a thunder shower ain’t fun I can assure you! :bang: Never again unless I'm in a proper marquee! :D

Sorry to hear about your miss fortunes Callum...but if things went grand all the time, you wouldn't know how to cope in situations when things go really wrong!

Yes, this is a horrible situation. I had the same bad look last year, had my rig underneath my gazebo tent and it decided to rain :eek: I had to very quickly break down my rig. Luckily, none of my equipment was damaged and all equipment was full working order. I'm having doubts doing future shows outside. If there is inadequate cover for my rig in outdoor events, then I will ask them to look else where.

Just a few friendly suggestions Callum about working outdoors.

I used to offer outdoor PA--thats proper outdoor allweather PA with outdoor horns--not using Disco speakers that really arent ideal for outdoor work in the UK when it starts raining;)

Try and work from your vehicle for rain protection, amps mixers etc.

Consider buying old cabinets to use at these events, scruffy outside maybe but decent speakers inside--ex band gear etc---its cheap enough--if it rains never mind eh?

I have a garage full of passive speakers:D

Rain doesnt matter then :D

Generally though if you dont have weatherproof equipment I would NOT volunteer to take along a gazebo==its not suitable.

I would TELL the organiser you want a proper water proofed area set up for you and your equipment --together with a safe supply of electricity.

Make this a Condition of Contract---we do on all outdoor events---we do plenty of Barn/Line Dance events like that in the summer and dont have problems--although we dont work in Scotland.

The bonus for you is its breach of Contract if they dont and you can walk away if it gets bad and still get paid--;)

Much as I enjoy outdoor events the weather is very unpredictable so you need to dictate the conditions you work under ---not the other way round.

Also ask them---so what happens when it starts raining--whats your Plan B?

Backup plan stupid;)

Incidentally---Water and Electricity dont mix too well im told--and guess who is most likely to get electrocuted:eek: :eek: :eek:

Space--dont need it for outdoor speakers---just stick em up on high poles .

Re--vehicle--get one when you can:D

Gazebo proven not to be fit for purpose---never mind stick it in T and Cs and then the organiser supplies you with something suitable.;)

Working outdoors sounds like a good idea in the Summer---until it rains.

So you dont leave the console area and check your show? What about sound levels when you got loads of people around the speakers? Placement of lights?

The banner was fine at the start of the night but come the end of the night it ended up like that! The photos were taken before I dismantled. It must of went like that when people came up asking requests kicking it etc.
