A couple of days late, but I'm here to say hello!!:wave:
A brief history and summary .....
Wired For Sound is a small disco based in Warwickshire. I get most of my work locally through referrals and as a residency is a local social club. As part timer this gets me out a couple of days a month and it suits me (and more importantly the missus) just fine. it's a dead cheesy name I know, but hey it's a name, it's says what I do and to be honest most people know me as Disco Dave round here anyhow.
I've been DJing for best part of 20 years now and started via the usual route, djing for family and friends. This started with a VERY small collection of singles, in fact probably not enough to do a night without repeating, 2 cheap decks and a tandy mixer and speakers all hooked up to a Technics 60wpc amp. I'm still using the same gear now .............. ha ha ..... not really!!
From this I progressed into doing mobiles with some other DJs and eventually took on a pub and bar residency. Back in 97 (ish) I gave it all up, mainly down to lack of appreciation from audiences and boredom. To be honest I was probably gigging too much and not introducing enough variety into my work. Since then I was always the 'music provider' at parties and always still wanted to be the DJ. Soon after I moved from the Black Country area (Stourbridge, Dudley), to Warwickshire because of work and getting married.
A couple of years ago a friend of mine announced he had organised a charity gig, that I was the DJ and there were 100+ people coming ... oh and I wasn't getting paid! He knew I wanted to get back in to DJing. I didn't have any equipment. So after some hurried purchasing and a few porkies to the missus about how much things cost, I was back in business. I picked up the local residency in time for the following New Year and I haven't stopped since.
I generally do birthdays, engagements, anniversaries and one or two weddings. My playlists and lighting kind of reflects that (see other thread in Gallery), but I believe in giving people a good time. Primarily the person who is celebrating, but also the entire audience. I tend to mix it up playing a mixture of party classics along with chart/rnb/dance. I also think they deserve a good sound and light show. I also charge reasonable rates for what I do as I work locally, these people are also becoming friends of mine too, which is good for repeat business.
All in all i'm enjoying myself and hopefully my punters are too.
