View Full Version : Airport horror story...I'm not going anywhere :(

I can't believe it. I'm not allowed to fly. I'm not happy or proud about the following, but just thought I would share it with you.

Arrive, check my bags in and the lady asks, "Has anyone had the opportunity to tamper with your bags" I said "No." She then asked, "Has anyone given you anything to take on board the plane" I said "No." She then asked me to look at a list of belongings I'm not allowed to take on the plane. She started to type on her computer so I pointed to the picture of a gun to my friend and said, "I have got one of them."

It took around 5 seconds for the lady to realize what I just said. She looked at me in disbelief. I thought for a second, I couldn't believe what I just said.

She then just looked down at the floor at said, "He didn't just say that did he." She immediately picked up the phone and called the manager. The manager ran over looking all stressed and called airport security. I was then taken away by the security to another room. My bag and suitcase was searched and I was interrogated.

The ironic thing...a family man on the same flight, with his family said pretty much exactly the same thing. Because he was an adult he is currently being driven down to a terrorist police station, as I'm classed as a "juvenile" then I didn't have to go that far. Luckily I also escaped a criminal record.

I'm not proud or glad of what I did. In fact I'm a complete plonker. It's life and there is no point crying over spilt milk.

I have booked flights to fly again tomorrow...same company, same time....but I have had to fork out another Ģ86, due to my big mouth! It just proves that I can't have committed that much of an offence, if I'm allowed back tomorrow. :bang:

Charlie.

HAHA! You legend! :D :D :D

A bit of a daft thing to say, but bloody funny! :beer1: :D

Airport staff do take things way too seriously though and once they searched you, I would have thought they would let you on the flight.

Charlie, I'm sorry to hear about what happened, but how on EARTH could you say something like that in an airport...even as a joke?

In the current climate, you're lucky they didn't evacuate the entire airport.

Exactly the same thing happened to someone who said the same thing on that "Airport" TV show.

I guess you've learned your lesson, but whatever you do, make sure you keep it zipped tomorrow!

Exactly. A quick check would have shown nothing (and did). Even if they did that with everyone, it wouldnt take too long with the modern technology they have. - Still stupid though Charlie eh :D

From what youve said the girls said (about he didnt just say that), it sounds like if she had a choice then the joke would have slipped, just not worth her job though...

Yes, but surly if a bleached blonde guy wearing fake tan was to openly admit to his friend that he "had a gun" then they could see and understand, I was simply excited on the prospect of going to Spain. The police didn't seem too fussed...it was more the Easy Jet manager running around like a headless chicken.

By allowing me to go tomorrow they are just gaining more money...in my eyes, it's a scam.

Reminds me of the program one foot in the grave, when they asked Victor Meldrew if he had anything to declare and he said only the crack in my arse , you can guess what they did to him :D

But seriously it was the worse thing you could have said, if any other passenger had over heard it could have caused problems & they just don't want trouble on the plane for obvious reasons, I guess it was a hard & costly lesson to learn but it will teach you in the future :)

how can you tell whether someone is lying or not because of what you look like.

That was the approach the police took. They wanted to let me back on the flight. They could see I hadn't got any form of weapons and they checked that I hadn't been in trouble with the police before. I had a laugh with the police in the end....especially when we got chatting about disco's.

I have learnt my lesson now. I will report back when I (hopefully) get their tomorrow.

I have one concern. Just read Easy Jet's terms and conditions. It states that any passenger refused flying isn't able to for 48 hours. When I asked the manager on site today he said, "oh no I'm sure you will be fine"....I just hope the manager isn't different and they stop me flying.

The flight cancellation is probably standard policy in such circumstances, probably in case they needed to re-interview him.

Charlie Brown
22-06-2009, 09:00 PM
Yes exactly Beer Funk. A couple of lads looking forward to a holiday in Spain. One of them makes a silly comment to his mate. Calling Airport Security and then the Police is crazy. The manager made more of a deal of it then it was worth. The Police even thought it was a tad over the top, hence when I asked the police officer, "Will you be taking me to the Terrorist center," he laughed at me and asked where I got that from. I explained that the manager had told me and all he said, "I ain't going to do anything mate...I will just pass you on to your mum so you can get a good bo!!ocking" and then laughed.

They could have given me a good telling off, checked my bags, let me apologize and then let me on the flight. Making me pay and come back tomorrow highlights the fact that they know I'm not a "major terrorist" or that I'm going to cause disruption to the flight.

Shaun
22-06-2009, 09:04 PM
I have to disagree, Charlie. Whether you're a kid or not, they still have a code of practice and company policies they have to abide by. Those practices make the airlines a safer place for us all. With all due respect you only have yourself to blame. :beer1:

22-06-2009, 09:05 PM

Yep, got to agree with the others Charlie.

You must realise what a serious matter this is now and like it or not, they have to act in the way they do, so it's no good trying to say that they were over the top.

Charlie Brown
22-06-2009, 09:10 PM
Yeah maybe so. I do accept full responsiblilty, I just feel that maybe, they went a tad over the top, with the circumstances.

Thank you people. :)

Charlie Brown
22-06-2009, 09:13 PM
Yes, but I think Darren if you were at the time, you would have a different view...

The cue was empty, and nobody was behind. The lady was on the computer and I didn't exactly say it to here. I never said "gun" just pointed to the picture to my mate in "jest" as she was typing away, hence why I answered all the other questions correctly and my suitcase was actually on the way to the plane.

But yes, I can blame nobody else but myself..

Yeah your right. If I can fly tomorrow, why the hell couldn't I today. They even let my mate go...surely we would be partners in crime. The airline next to us told the police that they would have let me on. (Thomas Cook)

How about the family man with kids being taken away to a investigation center? Is that over the top, even though they searched his suitcase and could see he hadn't got any baby fluid or whatever in his hand luggage?

Don't you think the staff might have realised that it's just a couple of kids joking around?

But that's the whole point...how would they know?

Do you REALLY think every person at an airport who says they have a gun or bomb should be ignored if the staff think it MIGHT be a couple of kids joking around? You can't be serious?

By all means, take the security precautions, but cancelling the flight does seem unnecessary to me.

Not to me.

To be honest, I think Charlie got off lightly.

I wouldn't have been surprised if the airport had been evacuated & the airline had banned Charlie from flying with them ever again...rather than just interviewing him & letting him fly 24 hours later. I'd say he was VERY lucky.

To get people to do what he wanted, possibly?

There were a couple of occasions in the bank when someone told me they had a gun, even though I didn't actually see it. However, I thought it was safer to believe them.

Maybe after 24 years in the bank I'm more switched onto security issues than many.

Surely he/she wouldn't want to raise attention to himself?

perhaps charlie you have a point,so lets ignore everyone at airports that say they have guns and search only those that don't say anything stupid because they are the ones with something to hide. in this scenario how long do you think it will be before terrorist cotton on and sending 16 yr old lads with bleached air and fake tan to the airport claiming they have a gun,the only way to keep our airports secure is to stay one step ahead of them,a couple of weeks ago i was talking to a friend of mine who is in the army and just back from iraq, before he left he has to brief the incoming boys on all the latest suiceide bombers tactics, 2 weeks later he came home and his best mate was blown up and killed by one, he said to me then how gutted he was but they are always trying different approaches trying to catch us out.

I agree with most people on here that Charlie is a VERY lucky person not have been arrested.

Anyone that saw the episode of Airport or similar would have seen the American who jokingly said he had a gun in his violin case get arrested and carted off with a criminal record.

I work within the security industry now and first port of call is evacuate the building and call the police.

It could have been a whole lot worse than it was.

Easyjet could have let you go on the flight that day but I feel it was more of a "teach you a lesson" by not allowing you on that day and charging you extra. You're lucky they didn't charge you for the police to come out.

Glad to hear your having a good time now. :)
Nuff said from me anyway. :)

Well I checked in fine...BUT I will be writing to Easy Jet.

Why? You were lucky to be on the flight the following day.

I'm sure I won't be the only one to say this but you did deserve it!

Remember next time give one word answers (the right ones) and keep it shut!

i've said enough about the incdent but i do agree with you on writing to easyjet about the reception the manager gave you, it is not a laughing matter and he is acting unprofessional to treat it as one, i would start the letter by admitting your foolishness though charlie, then go on to question why they did not follow procedure by asking the security questions, and why they think it is alright to joke about the matter when the previous day it was deemed a serious security issue. i would address the letter to head office

Charlie, if your not careful you'll get worked up over this and not enjoy your holiday.

Just thank your lucky stars and have an awesome time on holiday.
