Not as strange as the title seems but the question is.
When you get a new piece of kit be it sound, lighting or other do you "Have" to set it up in the house as soon as it arrives :D
Only asking as yesterday I picked up my 4 and a bit metres of trilite trussing and just 10mins ago the tripod legs from Ultimax arrived. So I now have set up in the dining room about 4ms of trilite truss winched up to the ceiling  :D :D :D
What I've done is used the winch pods from my "wheel & Winch" stand and put them into seperate tripod bases. Got them direct form Ultimax so there's no drama with fitments.
I was quite suprised when Carl from Ultimax said they've probably only sold about 4 pairs of them in the last 5 years.
They cost princely sum of £54 each which I thought was a decent price as I now have another type of set up available. I can see it mainly being used for 18ths / 21st's with 4 moving heads and lasers on it.
I'll get some pics when it has it's first outing ;)

I do exactly the same Paul! Moment it arrives it gets setup and tested! :D

Of course everyone does it, item arrives, rip open box, discard instructions and it's PLAY TIME.
Seriously though, if it's something you've never used before it's useful to familiarise yourself with it and get a good indication of extra / reduced set up time too. Not to mention the testing aspect of said item. Better to find out before a disco if it doesn't work.

Yep. So much so that I keep a £15 Maplin T-bar, bolts & wingnuts, couple of clamps, IEC lead and DMX cable in an old speaker stand carry bag in the cupboard under the stairs :D And an aux out from the hi-fi gear under the TV stand ready to provide a source for any sound gear that needs a whirl!

Yeah I always like to try out any new kit before I take it on the road.
I usually just set it up in the garage or on the driveway than have to take it in the house only to have to take it back out again.

Oh yes! It'd be rude not to!
I even do it now, even though every new product that comes in, I'll set it up at work anyway to get my head round it, and see what it does etc.....

Got to be done - got the dents in the wall to prove it :D :D
Been making progress though, I am now 'allowed' to use the conservatory to test equipment now ;)
Could be good to see some pics, I have some somewhere.

Yup, first thing I do, especially lights. My last purchase was a laser, had the smoke machine on, the blinds closed and the laser on... about 2 minutes later several smoke alarms going off, but the laser looked good lol... I had a big "club-sized" snow blower last year running out of my upstairs window too... that got a few funny looks in the middle of august ;-)

As promised earlier here's a couple, well actually 3 of pics of the tripods.
There is a nut and bolt that go's on the bottom of the pod but I've just put one in so you get an idea of the look.

Bought a pair of Yamaha sv115's,
Fired them up in the living room.
Nearly blew the windows out.

I don't know, as I can't remember the last time I bought something new!
I think I am quite bad for it.
I will even come home form work, just to open the box, look at it for 5 minutes then have to drive back. lol
The hard part is waiting till my shift finishes so I can drive home and have some fun. lol

I think the reason most of us do this is to make sure the piece of equipment works properly, in which case we can get rid of the packaging.

Naturally one of the reasons is to check it works but usually when Im buying something its a product ive researched and quite impressed with. PLus like with the trussing I got I dont want to be trying to work out how it works an hour before the gig
