I've only come across one so far but he was a really nice guy, he asked if he could have a look at my set up and explained he used to be a part time DJ when he was a miner (he's retired from both now). He used to take decks and vinyl out and charged £15 a night (which was apparently the going rate in his day).

He suggested a few songs from the 60's which really went down well with the crowd and at the end of the night he came over to thank me and say good night.

I don't think there's any need to be that rude. There are people around who like to think they know it all and gloat about how they used to work. Personally I would have just been polite and thought to myself "yeah whatever" :)

I only came across one a few weeks ago at a football presentation. He was very complimentive and enjoyed my taste of music. I had left my "football cd" at home which meant I didn't have "Three Lions." They couldn't find the wireless code so he seemed to get a bit hacked off. He apologized at the end for being "ignorant," which was cool. :)

I think we've all encountered this a LOT.

I just smile and say "As an ex-DJ you'll appreciate how busy I am just now, but I'll be happy to chat with you at the end of the event. Enjoy the evening".

I try not to be rude when doing it, but it's done in such a way that lets them know I can't really chat to them at that moment.

I do gigs for "Relay for life" in Derby and the organaisers Dad was a mobile Dj in the late 70's early 80's always comes over to say hello and see what new bit of kit I've got :D

And always helps load in and out as he remembers that bit all too well ;)


Also did a job last year that Rich (Wensleydale) was at, didn't stop pestering me all night :eek:

Only joking :p He came over at the begining ofthe night said hello then went off to enjoy the party :D :D
