Hello All!

Hope everyone is good - i'm great, 10 weeks holiday! :cool: :D

Anyway, me being me (always wanting to spend :o) am looking for a couple new bits of equipment. I'm probably going to take the plunge and go digital later on this year, but use CDs too.

The playout system i've decided on is;

Denon DN-HC4500 - Running PCDJ Reflex LE, VDJ when i get the cash.
Denon BU4500 Draws
Kam KAP500 Mixer
Kam KCD1000 (as backup)

Therefore, i am in need of a case with 4U mountable space at the front for 2 sets of draws, approx 10U (bit more if poss) across the top and some sort of way of mounting a laptop. (had considered ultimax shelf attatched onto upright?).

I'll also be getting ProDub. ;)

I hope to have the HC4500 by the end of the summer (better getting working :p ) but won't use it out on gigs until i've bought the ProDub.

Instead of buying the Denon draws I would recommend buying a stand alone dual CD player, I have the HC4500 and it has crashed a couple of times, on both occasions I have had a CD in a seperate CD player which I could switch to.
Cost wise it is about the same but does take another 2U in the top

Yeah - I've already got CD back up though - the KAM KCD1000.

why not get a HD2500 instead? You can still use it to control software Reflex, Virtual DJ, even Serato (with the serato hardware). This way you have 2 levels of backup.
If you use the HD2500 as a midi controller for software then you can also
1) use the HD2500 with it's 40gig hard disk on it's own
2) use your laptop on it's own without the controller (with a decent soundcard).

This way you'll have much less to carry around as you can ditch your CD's completely.

I get your point, but as mentioned - i'd still like the ability to use CDs too.

The DNHD 2500 uses the same BU 4500 as the HC 4500

Good point, but the HD2500 is a fair bit more than the HC4500. I could get the HC4500 & The BU4500 for the same price as the HD2500?

The HD2500 is only a few quid more than the HC4500. A tenner more in fact in some stores. Personally I think the CD drawer unit is expensive at over £300. If you really NEED to play a CD for instance if you are caught at a gig with a specific music request that the client has on CD you can always use the CD drive in your laptop.

Thing is, The HC4500 from a certain shop is £384 and the HD2500 is £629. I'm getting the draws second hand from a forum member for a lot less than the new price. As my Dad's company has dealings with the retailer in question, I can get a reasonable discount on the HC4500. Although the HD2500 doesn't require a laptop at a gig (which is good because my laptop isn't the quickest one ever) if i was to buy it from a different retailer it would still be alot more than the HC4500 with a discount...

If your laptop isn't the quickest ever then I would seriously advise you to try your laptop out with a controller first before parting with any money. My laptop is probably about 4-5 years old (not sure as I acquired it .. don't ask). It plays media player, media monkey etc, but isn't up to the task of running proper dj software when I loaded trial versions. It runs the dj software fine, but when you use the controller, the latency isn't what I would call acceptable (i,e there is a bit of lag between the controller and the pc). For me it needs to be instant, or as near as.

Hi, I'm still reluctant to get the HD2500. I'd prefer to take my Dell PC to my gigs and use that to run the HC4500, as I KNOW i can get the HC4500 for a lot less than the HD2500... I know my Dell is fast enough to run the HC4500 with VDJ or something similar as i've run ProTools on it for years and not had a problem.

How soon are you looking to buy these items Olllie? I can see your clear in your mind what you want and thats great but BPM isnt far off and you get to play with all the toys to you and pick the one that feels right, which may very well be the denon set up.

I have two citronic brackets that clamp onto my deckstand at the moment but its not great because you can see the laptop quite clearly and I dont like that hence why Im saving for the deckstand booth.

The earliest I could afford the HC4500 is August, unless more gigs come in. I'm not sure if i can get to BPM :(

You want to speak to your Denon rep then Adam. My supplier has told me the RRP is £629 on the 2500 as prices have gone up recently.

The trade has gone up dramatically too, so you must have a lot of stock at HTFR. ;)

I got my playout console racked up in a secondhand 11U / 4U, looks like this:

I wouldn't be able to (a) get in a second set of drawers due to the underside of the SDJ-2 being in the way, nor would I (b) be able to lift the thing - it's heavy enough as it is with the CD drawers in there!

...i.e. you'd need a 10U / 6U and a roadie to make what you have planned work out.

What has been said about the weight is true.

I had 10u over 4u fully loaded (no amps) and it got unbearable. Circa 35kgs.

Using a 10u case now, shaved a good 15kgs off.

Couple of things;

a) Roadie is no issue, either got my Dad with me (mum occasionally) or a friend.
b) Just bought a HC4500
c) Can't wait! :)
