I do get a lot of bookings from the same people so I do reduce my fee, only because I know they will come back, and they do. I know they will get a good show provided by me, I take the money and say see you next month. lol.

Thats alright, its only as this is really all i will give discounts for, par family members and REALLY good friends!
But even then i have to cover petrol and some form of payment for my time!

Turning things around, that's like my brother charging me his standard call out fee & normal labour charge when he repairs & services my gear for me. If he did, I'd have to go elsewhere, as I couldn't afford him!

There have been threads here & there about would you give a discount for this or that, so I thought it would bre good to tie everything together in one poll, but you're right that it probably makes a difference whether you're a part timer or full timer.

Family and close friends, but most prefer me to be there drinking than playing. Ive stepped in a few times when their booked dj has let them down.

I would give a slightly different price for "off-peak" but Thursdays dont count as round here its a regular drinking night and i can be in the club.

Charity evenys get discount, BUT i only do a 2 a year as experience has show that word soon gets round and you get flooded with "charity" calls.

I provide the RNLI with one free of charge per year, but that because ive grown up with the lifeboat. My dad was (until ill health) the mechanic and step-mum was Coastguard, and growing up i spent most of my leekends on the boat :D

The other charity is whatever comes along that i support. Its got to be one that i personally feel is worthwhile (or good for business, :D - like one a while ago that had Duncan Banatyne there, proved very useful :D )

I've done the discount thing in the past with family, and didn't get so much as a thank you at the end of the night. So I don't do discounts any more for family members (*unless it's immediate family.)

*I have a brother and sister, and would always do them the evening at cost. This would only apply to a midweek booking though. Weekends are prime time and for paying customers only.

It's amazing how many half cousins and long lost aunties have contacted me through the years expecting a 'family discount', they ultimately end up disappointed when I quote my full price. This is my what I do to pay the bills and put food on the table, if I offer a discount some bills don't get paid and less food is put on the table. Ultimately, if I did a freebie or a low paid gig for family on one of the prime evening weekend nights, it's basically like losing half a weeks pay. I doubt very much any of them would be prepared to lose half a week of their pay to help me out if the tables were turned.

There's another way of looking at it.

If a close friend or family member was having a party & invited me as a guest but didnt ask me if I'd like to do the disco, I think I'd feel quite insulted!

I'm really looking forward to my wedding on Friday, as it's for a family member, so I'll know lots of people there & I'd MUCH rather be working it than just being there as a guest...even though it IS 40 miles away & discounted due to the fact it's for a family member.

I shall offer feedback based on opinion and what I would offer.

Client is a friend or family member - Free
Client is someone you know - Yes
Regular client / venue - Yes, small discount
Working with a band - perhaps, it depends
Small disco with minimal kit - Yes, definately - Less Work
Short disco - lower price would be quoted anyway
Early finish - Yes, less hours equals a lower rate
Off-peak night - Yes, a small discount
Very local & / or very easy access - Yes, a small discount
Charity events - Free (otherwise it's not really a charity event is it)

The Early finish would only be cheaper, from my opinion, If it was less hours.
