Alright guys, need your thoughts on a "crowd scanner" laser. Not a cluster or defraction to give its correct name?. Something nice and bright but Im only interested in equipment you have seen working. Had a kam 120 i think on demo and wasnt impressed with it. Ive seen a laser uk burst 2 (I think it was) and it was much brighter. This laser is only going to be used on 16th/18th/21st type events and I'll have it on the truss next to the acme firecracker.

Budget is about £300 but will happily spend more if its miles better than the other products within budget.

Thanks

Until a few weeks ago I an used apollo laser canon which I was really happy with, then I saw the Equinox Aries laser. It has two modes, one of which projects animations (some pre-loaded, and others you create yourself on a custom basis). The RRP was about £450 but I paid just under £400 for mine and I'm still impressed with it.

It's a cracking little laser.

Was quite surprised when the Kam team brought it in to demo to us.

How does it look without smoke/haze?

havent had chance too. Got all my kitchen and stuff in my living room at moment because new kitchen is going in as we speak and no gigs for two weeks either. When I saw it in the show it was pretty good, not quite as good as the idea I had in my mind the laser should of been but then again I set a budget of £500 so when this came up at £168 I had to take it!

I am happy with it. A bit naughty I know but at night I had it out the window down onto the road (nobody around and not any chance of someone seeing into it directly) just for a few seconds and the throw was pretty impressive.

Not sure if its going to be as effective as an cluster style laser when there is no smoke.

It was more the animations I was interested in. Post a vid if you get chance.

It also does a few messages, Good Luck, Happy New Year etc, but you can only access them by DMX.

It’s more expensive and only does green but I have one of these:

Very powerful and you can set it to either just do animations or just tunnels.

I've been watching quite a few vids of these animation lasers and they look OK without smoke as you can still see the animations, but awesome with smoke or haze.

Cheers Darren,
I wish manufacturers would show you lighting effects with and without smoke especially with so few venues allowing smoke and more and more seem to also refuse hazers now.

They look ok without smoke, they do nice colourfull patterns on the wall, which is the same as any light does without smoke really.

Naturally they would sell less if they showed them with smoke!

Remember for every experienced DJ that knows full well lights look alot better with smoke and most venues dont allow there are ten wannabes with more money than sense :D

Neil.

Using Laser softwere, are you able to programme the laser with your own messages? I.e "Neils 18th"? "Congratulations", etc etc?

I havent even hooked it up to my control desk yet Steve and I dont use any dmx software. I'd imagine that the kam one wouldnt have that function but I could be wrong
