Wanted: Best value UV light?

I was a bit unsure where to post this so I hope I have posted it in the right place.

I am looking to buy a UV light; I don’t expect to use it much so I don’t want to spend a fortune on one. I have had a look around and there is a plethora of types ranging from canons to compact fluorescents.

I would be most grateful on some advice; I have heard the bulbs in cannons can explode! :eek:

Tubes are good at lighting up small areas but are useless in large spaces. Cannons are great for filling dance floors and large areas but can hurt your eyes when used in small spaces.

The Cannon bulbs can explode when left on for long periods of time but this is quite rare.

There are some L.E.D UV lights around now but i haven't a clue how good they are.

Has anyone done a comparision between the LEDJ Stratos UV and the LEDJ Wash UV (18 x1W LEDs). I'm in the market for 2 LED UV wash lights and I am wondering which is the best to buy.

Which is the most powerful ? Basically the Wash is 50% more than the Stratos but if the output is more than I would go for that as I want to limit the number of lights that I carry.

Hiya pal, why don't you contact your local dealer see if you can do a cross comparison on both products back to back. They might be able to give you a demo of the 2 side by side ;)

Just guessing but I would have thought the wash should give a better spread (left to right) and the Stratos a better throw, make sense? :confused:

Sheet of glass in front of the cannon to block out any kind of UV radiation (and to keep the exploded remains of a lamp in one place :D)

Even though it does state that I've see these units being used a quite a few places (fun fairs, theme parks, clubs, bars) and the only thing I've seen put in front of them is wire mesh (to stop people from touching the bulbs). I've even seen these units installed directly over a dance floor packed with children.

I do remember UV lights aren't very good for your eyes but pretty sure that's only during prolonged uses.

I’ve brought one of these for £30 (off eBay) it has a wire mesh so should help.
I would have gone for LED but I don’t plan to use it much so in the short term, this was cheaper

Just i thought if you put a sheet of glass directly in front of the light would it not stop air circulation which would lead to the bulb getting extremely hot (as these bulbs do) and therefore causing it to shatter? Just a thought:confused:

You've gone for the big ones then:)

Only seen 1 or 2 of these in action and they are quite big (usually used for installs). I've personally never heard of this type exploding/shattering.

Well I haven't really used them but that's one way to do it just be sensible with glass placement.
