Smaller Rig but how...?

Hi Guys,

Been mulling this one over for a while and now getting in a bit of a muddle!!

I currently have an Ultimax 1200 stand with 3m single bar over the top. i have 2 x denon DNS1200's and a DNX120 in a coffin case, run 2 x Mackie 450's and a DB Sub 15. Lighting, i have a Martin EFX 600, 2 x Impossibled's, 2 x Dynamo's a Starcluster and a Waterwave (used for 1st dances, background etc).

If i do a kids party i use the above, but only the 2 x impossibled's and the starcluster for lighting (more than fills most venues) but does look a bit empty on the bar. I do active kids parties with lots of games and dances with me out front with a headset mike (cheapy warrior).

I'd like to have a smaller set up for kids parties and for the odd pub and house party i get.

I've looked at the 0.6m Ultimax mini stand with 1.5m o/head, but what about a starcloth or similar for the front? Do any of you guys use one of these stands and have any pics of how you set up? What about lighting, how much will it hold?

The problem with the 0.6m stand is that the coffin case won't fit!!! so i've started looking at perhaps a 2nd set up. Quite like the idea of Denon HD2500 with a X500 mixer and BU4500 cd drawers all set up in a nice flightcase. Any of you guys use this set up? again, have you got any pics?
The advantage of this is it's still Denon so hardrives etc and operations are same ish.

Another option might be to go over to a lappy. But i just don't know....

Then i'm looking at Bose....

The more research i do the more confusing it seems to make it!!!

I have a van to transport kit in so space isn't a restriction. But alll of my kit is stored in the house on the 1st floor so each weekend it all has to come down get packed in the van and then back up again after the weekend. My knees are suffering, and i need to lighten up the kit.

Any advice much appreciated.

If you are thinking full flight case then be aware that an X500, HD2500, BU4500 comes in pretty heavy, around 40kgs. If you are prepared to do without the CD drawers you can fit an X500 and HD2500 plus a mini keyboard to search for songs in a 10u mixer case which reduced weight considerably ie. you will be able to carry it upstairs ;-)

Get a seperate, smaller, bar knocked up. That way you can use the full 1.2m stand without making the bar look devoid of lighting. And you can get your speakers up close and high because theres no overhang blocking them.

Mine is 1/4" thick, 1" box section of mild steel thats been Hammerite'd (did consider chrome, but theres no where local). As strong as anything (even stronger than Ultimax single bar) and does fine :)

Nice light, the miracled is 'Discosteve'.

It's a great centrepiece, as is the EFX 500 and 600.

Perhaps you could add LED Bars or Moodbars to the side, this cuts out some of the lights already.

I would probably not be seen without some kind of stick lighting at the sides.

ok, so well over 30kgs easy..... enough to nearly rip my arms out the sockets each time. It felt as heavy as my sub which i know is 37kgs.

Good tip about the shortened bar too. I do this as standard now and I may start offering a small rig myself. Some of the pubs round here have limited space.

Wouldnt work, what you cant see off that piccy is that the set up id designed to be slotted in a corner, with the speakers as tight into the stand as is humanly possible (you'll be surprised how many venues round here have a 6ft square "stage" that they expect you to get set up on). By adding bars down the side youre either gonna have to push the speakers out, or have no benefit from the lights, because the speakers are hiding them.

If i can get away with spreading the speakers out abit, then i usually stick in a couple of par can uplighters (like below):)

Ands, this is the smallest (and cheapest) set-up, so dont want to make it the most attractive....or any more work than needed ;)

I actually meant on the bars, as marked. So the bars are directly infront and level with the vertical props of the stand.
