Projecting video's

Hi guys, Im looking for information on projecting video's. I've recently bought Virtual DJ 6.0 and was looking at putting a projector on my DJ stand facing back towards a screen which would stand in front of my black curtain backdrop. Obviously I would only be offering this service at an extra charge but apart from that, I don't have a clue about anything to do with it. So a couple of questions really :

1) Will Virtual DJ 6 play my video's and if so where do I buy the video's from.

2) What am I looking at in total cost.

3) Is it a good idea at all !!!!

Any help would be appreciated. At the moment I only take my computer for back up purposes and don't use it to play the music. Thanks, Alan.

You can get videos (DVD format or MPEG 4's) From Mixmash, Promo Only, DMC or a good source for mash up's 8thwonderpromos. Sorry mate I am not familiar with Virtual DJ?

2) What am I looking at in total cost.

Costs on the website for either monthly subscriptions or individual tracks, plus the cost of the screen and Projector. I would get a bloody good laptop and external hard drive though, as your video collection will take up loads of space and you don't want it crashing half way through a track. You might also need a vision mixer, again mate I am not sure about virtual DJ it might have it all on board???

3) Is it a good idea at all !!!!

Yep it's great and gives you a really good unique selling point. I have done it now for 3 years and haven't looked back!

Virtual DJ does have all the video playing add-ons and tools built in Max.

mixmash, promo only or DMC for the videos, not cheap though be warned. A quick google and you'll find the sites.

I wouldnt put the screen behind you though as you'll block half the video.

hi mate.

I use 2 15 flat monitors and a 42 inch plasma for videos with virtual DJ. You jus plug the VGA or S video out of your laptop into your projector.

I the video menu of virtual DJ you can select the output source.

Really like the look of it. It's a shame though you can't use video software thru it at the moment, only SD cards. Says that they are working on it though.

I use Apple Macbooks with Arkaos video software to accompany the music videos which I play off of Hardware - Pioneer DVJ X1's. I am looking at using Serato VSL soon as well

With the recession people are trying to cut down on cost, so if they can have a good disco without videos, then they will go for the later.

I think that unless you are going to do it in a big way, with all the bells and whistles etc., you wont be able to entice the client to pay more.

I think if the entertainer has this led video cloth as an added optional add on and charges or example 200 quid, a good few hundred gigs down the line you might be able to pay for this beast of a curtain! Seriously though, if you promoted this feature/led video curtain, you'll attract a bigger, more upmarket marketplace?
