Hey,

Two guys here hailing from the Black Country.

Thanks to everyone on the forum, i've already learned a lot just by reading your threads, its a great help.

Little bit of background...

About 4 years ago, we (a band i was in) brought a large p.a system (2 huge bass bins, two high/middle end speakers, peavy 16 track mixer and an A Audio?? Amp) and two sets of 4 par cans, aswell as smoke machine and strobe lights.

We didn't really use it much as a band, so recently, me and my friend (ex-guitarist) decided to make use of it. We'd done a few discos with it for an air cadet squadron i volunteer at, and in return they keep it stored in a secure building (its army owned and covered in cctv).

We thought that we should start running a mobile disco business part-time, to fit with some promotions we do for local unsigned live bands. We've priced everything up and spent many hours researching things.

We've decided to buy another £400 of lights, we've researched PLI and got quotes of £90, and we've sorted PAT testing on everything. We researched local experienced full-time djs and their pricing and we've set ours accordingly.

As for music, we have 15,000 tracks on an 500gb external hard drive, connected to an apple macbook black running virtual dj. These songs have been collated from 4 laptops, me and my friend, another friend who will do our driving as he has a van, and my manager at my part-time job.

We are unsure however, on the license we may require in terms of PPL/PRS/MCPS (and any other name the u.k royalty collectors go under). Is a produb license we need, or is there something else?

Also, is there any advice we really need to heed as a start-up mobile djs?? Marketing and tech we have covered, as my friend is a sound engineer and i study media, marketing, etc?

Any advice?

Thanks, great to be part of your forum, and hopefully your industry,
