Infant school party

I have been asked to do a mini disco for one of the schools I supply sportsday/funday P.A.s for. The kids are year 2 - it's a mini leaving disco and I need a little help with the music. I normally do them a playground disco after the events, but this will be for about an hour, so will need a few more tunes.

I normally play things like:

Cha cha slide
YMCA
Crazy Frog :eek:
Chart R&B seems to go down well too.

Any other suggestions? Interactive party dances will be needed I think?

Music Man - great for getting parents / teachers involved if required.
oop upside your head - again can make it kids v adults
Big Fish Little Fish - the Bob the Builder version can be a hit.

I have to say I find I'm out of touch with this age group too - that's why I avoid these gigs! :D

However, I've found they all seem to know the dance to 'Crank That', and unfortunately, High School Musical... :( Something by Michael Jackson would be worth a gamble too I reckon, they're bound to have it on their ipods/phones!

Don't think i'd survive an hour!

Me too, but this is a school where I was a governor and I do a couple of things a year for them cheaply and this year they've asked for a mini disco to be tagged on the end of something else, so I couldn't refuse really.

To be honest, there still going to be into the likes of Agadoo. Most schools round here do things with music in pe, so ask the school if they do. One of the schools does a "Brain Start" class where they dance around like loonys at the beginning of the day, just to get them in the right frame of mind :)

We did one of these on Thursday - all the above worked fine as does the Macarena. Hoedown Throwdown also went down a storm.
The key is to always try and involve the mums, who are there to supervise the event, get them to join in with the dances and your life becomes much easier.
We also did musical statues at various points when we need to grab their attention back - best animal statue - scarey statue - super hero statue - etc.
Also (love them or hate them) bubbles went down a storm - no slips or slides, the bubbles never made it to the floor.
Fortunately "we" includes my 15 year old son, Joe, who does all the dances and runs round with the radio mic.

Did a school disco last night.

One that worked very well was Just Can't Get Enough by The Saturdays. Had to cover my ears with that one. Ohh and that was for the first half which was for the infants.

I have a playlist I wrote down from last night. Could get it posted if it's of any help to you?

Mobile Phone ages seem to be going down all the time, years ago, it just used to be adults who ran busineses, who had them.

Most children have them for safety reasons as well as peer pressure, both of my children have them (aged 9 and 12) and although they do not venture far I always know where they are.

Cost is another reason, most phones were very expensive to buy and use many years ago but tariffs are really cheap these days which makes them more accessible.
