Hi All,

I'm after a controller for virtual DJ and I was looking at the Numark DMC2. Is it any good?

Whybuynew has the best price at £200 - doesn't someone on here own it or work for them?

I would prefer to connect my External HDD to the controller without using the laptop, so do you reckon the Numark D2 would be a good option and then use the laptop as a backup?

If there are any others you would recommend, please post them.

The main reason i'm looking in to buying a built-for-purpose unit is because my laptop had the blue screen of death when I was doing a prom 2 weeks ago :O (luckily I carry a flightcase of CD's).

My max budget is around £500.

Yeah, that was my reason for moving off a laptop - at the time I bought a Cortex HDC3000 which is a good bit of kit as long as you accept a few limitations (there's mixed opinions on this, but I find it is also prone to the occasional crash as it is quite touchy about the quality of the MP3's fed into it, and if you load it with more than 5000 MP3's on a single HDD it'll sometimes be quite slow to respond when loading tracks). But these still sell new for about £340 or so.

I've been thinking about replacing it with a Numark DDS (note, no 80 - I wouldn't buy the complete unit with the HDD and CD drive rack as this is circa £700, but the control unit is about £430 and then you just attach USB devices to it) as I've spent some time playing with one in the shop and it's a nice bit of kit. Avoid the version with the built in mixer though as I've read a number of reviews where people have said that the mixer is noisy (as in electrical noise from the processer in the unit/background hum) and also doesn't properly cross fade or fade the channels down to nothing (i.e. even if you fade a channel right down you can still hear the music in the master output).

I use a bcd3000 and as long as i use it on my dedicated laptop, at the mo havent had no probs.

d2 user for two and a half years, only ever had one glitch and that turned out to be a corrupt mp3 but a rock-solid unit. So much so I now have an iDJ2 as backup (effectively the DDS80 with built-in mixer) which I often take as primary playout to smaller events, kids parties, outdoor events etc. as it's a lot less to carry than my main playout box! No noise issues here.

Do it. You won't regret it.

The unbelievably complicated profoundly deaf Denon HD2500 is under £500 now, isn't it? Think the MEP's a bit dearer than £500, even without the drawers, but don't the drawers have a vital part of the system software or something? :confused: Think I'd vote for DDS, simply because unless something rises Phoenix-like from the ashes, Cortex is going to be an old system with no support. :( :( :( :( :(

been using a d2 since it was released with no probs and also have a dds80 which i have had since last october much prefer the colour screen on the dds

Have only ever used Numark Total Control usb Controller, never had a problem with it, its easy to use, does what it says on the tin etc etc.

I own a Numark DMC2 Controller, I find it very easy to use and the features on it are fantastic. The ability to mix audio and video and also access folders and files in Virtual DJ/Numark Cue makes it nearly needless to touch the laptop/pc unless you have to search for a certain song or artist.

Well worth the money I would say.

If I remember rightly I paid £300 for mine 2 years ago when they first came out.

I have had to dedicate half of the £500 to next week's flying lesson as I'm doing my practice Cross-country qualifier :D

So today, for the grand total of £199, I have purchased a Numark DMC2. Hopefully it will be here by wednesday at the latest as I have a 18th on Friday and a 40th on Saturday.

I agree with not using software, but I'd want something slightly larger to play with than the D2. (sorry Rob :D)
