It is a far far better thing I do now.......................................
OK, enough with the quotes. :o After I've showered and shaved, I'm heading off to Deepest Darkest Lincolnshire to cover for Penmare. It's a wedding in a prestigious Louth Hotel, so that sounds like I'll have to leave two Rottweilers in the van , instead of just one. ;) Tony says it's easy access with a small PA needed. so it'e the Wembley rig and extRA roadies I fear.
I've had my inoculations, got my phrase book handy, and so far the postillion hasn't been struck by lightning. :D I have had problems with the visa however, they didn't believe where it said "Entertainer". :( Fortunately, I got in on the Educational ticket, as they said most folk leave my gigs muttering " Well that's taught me a lesson! "
If they have phone coverage in Yellowbelly land, I'll report as and when I can.
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye........................
( Strewth, the quotes are getting worse.:o :o :o )

Penmare is now officially Dead Man Walking!   The limiter was tripped by the venue's in house background music while I WAS SETTING UP! :bang: We may go to plan B, C, D, or if it gets really bad, plan E. That's the usb enabled Radio in my van!
Tone, word of caution. ;) When you're heading back to Cartoonland tonight, don't annoy any White Van Men. ;) I've put the word out. :D

Right, here's the (almost) full SP on the night. When you've read it you'll know why Penmare is officially persona non grata chez Excalibur. ;)
OK, I turn up at noon , after a pleasant journey in the glorious sunshine, and find that Penmare is spot on, it's a lovely venue, superb access, great staff. :D :D
I'm delighted to be shown the dreaded limiter, as it's in a residential area, and as I've said before, the in house background tripped it while I was setting up! I'd contacted Tony about the sound issues, and he told me he'd used his bins in there, no problem. I had decided to use tops only, but after that info, decided to use bins, as it would make the gear fit better. Big mistake. More later. :(
Got all set up, did a quick soundcheck, tweaked up the bass back to normal, as I'd purposely cut it for a start. Sounded awesome. Looked quite good too.
Now I've got 4-5 hours to savour the delights of Louth on a Saturday afternoon. Can I handle the excitement? Off I trot into the town centre, and while away an hour or two. Find a pub with a comfy sofa and pile of papers, and spend a relakxing hour there. Overhear that the management there are going to the wedding! :D :D
Back to venue, get changed, it's sweltering hot, and every door and window is open in the venue. I go in while they're on main course, and start updating the HD's with the laptop. I'm ready to rock and roll, venue's been turned round for night, and all the punters are outside. Except one. Classy Lady. Comes up sweetly to have a look at and word with the DJ. Nice. ;)
" I've got Photo Sensitive Epilepsy ". Not nice. When I've taken the full party lighting rig. :bang: We have a chat about it, she's impressed when I have some knowledge of it and sympathy with her condition, and she leaves quite reasurd with the rig, as she's stood behind it to see the coverage area of the lights, and I've promised to not use the Geni Spin3's. " I can sit at the back safely". There we are, there's no such things as problems, only opportunities. :D :D
Introduce myself to Groom, who has no interest in me whatsoever, no first dance record, he's tired, well filled with food and drink, so I'm an annoyance. I make my excuses and leave.
We get going, and I've got a handful of punters, with children, so at least I get some early interaction. Plenty requests, and one of them induced B&G up for a first dance, so that worked really well. Not as many guests as expected, most sitting outside, and it's so hot that nobody's got the energy to get up. Real grueller on the cards. :( Still at least it sounds great. Until I get busted for excessive noise! :bang: Not surprising when you consider every door and window is open. So drop the sound to a silly level, and watch the levels and the clock. :( :( :( :(
I've got a handful of interested guests, and eventually finish time arrives, venue staff happy, cards asked for, and I'm loaded up and heading for home. Only 75 Motorway miles to endure, and I get home at 2am having been interested by a load of Police and Rescue staff looking in the bushes on the opposite carriageway of the M180.
PS, don't get the impression I'm annoyed with Tony, I'm grateful for the gig, we've kept continuity of service with the venue, and I've been chortling with Tony about it during and since. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well I've got to expect some hassle to earn the extra money, if I'm going to stop being a Sixty Quid Sid. ;)
Tone, since I'm a nice bloke, and a true professional, bring 'em on. :D
Expect a PM in the fullness, one or two interesting snippets not for broadcast. ;) :D :D :D
I forgot to mention that the Venue Owner was impressed with:
1) The look of the gear
2) The function of the gear, some minor bits in particular
3) The microphone manner of the DJ, and general demeanour
Think I supplied a more than acceptable substitute. :p :D :D
