I did a wedding reception last night in Falkirk, it was a funny old night. The couple (top people btw) got married in Greece the week before so they opted for no first dance, second dance ect, they asked for 10 songs to be played throughout the night ranging from Wham - I'm your man to the 8 minute Jacques Lu Cont remix of Mr. Brightside. The dancefloor wasn't empty all night, but not as constantly full as I like it (you know what I mean). All in all tbh it was a tough gig and when it's like this I tend to beat myself up a little. I think due to striving to be the best I can be at every gig. Well it ended up the couple gave me a nice cash tip at the end of the night, so maybe I was being somewhat paranoid. You all probably find from time to time, although you think things haven't gone as well as they could the client/crowd perceive it completely different, weird. I've attached one of the most annoying parts of the evening when a punter handed me a serviette saying " I didn't write it "

Gig last night was 80's 90's and modern.
So playing a nice mix of 80's and 90's just after the 1st dance.....someone came up....
"Oi mate, Can you play something a bit more modern and fast?"
"Yeah no problems - anything in particular?"
"How about Barbie Girl?"

I hope this makes you feel even better!!!
I have had a theory for a long time now that a lot of people book you or me or in fact any entertainment knowing that their friends and family are NOTORIOUS for not joining in when it comes to the Dancing.
So getting just a small number of people dancing is in their eyes a RESULT.
I have had many people tell me at Barn Dance Weddings---actually you did really well cos normally this lot dont dance to much at all --the other week I literally was going round the room at a Barn Dance Social event rather forcefully suggesting they get off their backsides because xyz the organiser who had laid it all and put a lot of work into decorating the hall was on the verge of crying because no :Censored: would join in.
After a while they got the message and the music/ drink did the rest BUT the relieved organiser admitted this group of people are NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO GET GOING.
Move on---I have;)

Serviettes! That's just a posh version of the beer mat requests I usually get ;-)

My Dad used to say to me, when I was compere'in a certain caberet club and having a tough time " Son, sometimes people just laugh on the inside " :D
I do move on but was merely expressong how I felt at the time, I'm sure even the best of the best feel like this from time to time. ;)

Had the same last night. I normally call them Frank Sinatra - Prodigy Gigs. In that you couldn't get two more diverse styles of music. People were on the dancefloor they were off the dancefloor. I actually got handed a serviette as well, which was nice. There was me thinking I had BBQ all over my face? There was one women who literally though that I was there for her all evening. I just had enough in the end and said that it would be nice just to let me claim the dancefloor back again, as I was not a Juke Box. Client really happy at the end of the night though!
