Dad is at a wedding today (same place where I did my gig log last week.)

He started chatting to the DJ and explained about me. The DJ then went to tell him where he had previously worked. He then said "I used to work at the girls high school a lot as they had quite a lot of disco's. This past year they haven't bothered mind"

.....I have been doing all of the Girls High School disco's for about a year now :D :D :sj:

How would you feel of this was one of your 'best' regular clients and someone came on here telling everyone how they took it off you. I don't want to come across harsh but don't like people gloating.

In the same breath though I should congratulate Charlie for succeeding in the discos for the school. :approve:

Plus the fact that the other DJ may have become a little stale or complacent, without realising it, and a refresh was necessary ?

This year I've taken all three of my local schools off another DJ who everyone agreed had become stale/complacent/less interesting for the kids. I've seen him in action myself and actually have to agree that his show wasn't amazing. However, I know he used to have a child in one of the schools which was how he originally got the gig, and how I've now got it, so I fully expect someone else to take it from me in a few years time when I become old and boring :) I just hope that I can maintain a good enough relationship with whoever is booking me that if/when they do drop me, I'll find out about it first hand.

This will probably sound odd, but I would actually appreciate it if the new DJ did call me and tell me about it.

Having said that, I'm now going to have at least one child in each of the local Infant/Junior/Secondary schools for the next 16 years, so I expect I'll get a full review from my kids anyway ;)

I didn't say he did, I was saying that as a DJ who is probably going to be in his position one day, I'd actually be interested to know who/why the business went to. That's not so I can slag them off behind their backs, or go round their house and let their tyres down, it's so that I can understand where I'm going wrong and improve. I'm always interested in feedback from my customers (or ex-customers!) and usually send out feedback sheets to my customers the week after the gig to see what they thought of me - the feedback I get is sometimes really surprising and helpful.

If it was me, I'd be asking the venue why they no longer used me. Their response would help me understand where I went wrong & how I could improve much better than simply knowing who had taken over doing their gigs would.

I'm with you on that - I did say in my original post that I hoped that my relationship with the customer would be good enough for them to tell me why they weren't booking me again. However, in the absence of any direct information from the customer, knowing who won the business over me might give me a bit of insight into what the customer was thinking (certain DJ's in my area are known for undercutting other DJ's and some have a fantastic reputation for doing kids parties, etc etc) and would also confirm to me that the party hadn't just been cancelled and that I had lost the business to someone else. It would, at the least, give me a kick up the :Censored: to start thinking about what I was doing again.

Maybe that's just me though :o
