I have a booking there this week and it's not close to me, so I can't pop in for a look. At the moment I am having trouble getting in contact with the venue as they don't seem to answer their emails and the phone number on the site is the 'office' and not the venue...

Anyway, any information about loading, parking and access would be great.

Hi Darren,

I did a wedding there a few years ago.

From what I remember, it's on the ground floor in a round building & you won't have any problems at all.

You can park virtually at the side of the building (no more than a few yards from the door), although once unloaded you'll need to put your van in the nearby car park.

I think the power is right behind where you set up, and I'm pretty sure there is no sound limiter...or if there IS one, it can't give any problems or I'd remember it.

Edit: Just had a look at their website, and it looks like I was in the Watermill barn, so that's the room my info applies to, although it seems they also have another function room.

I did a mates wedding there last year, easy access, room is a fair size, wooden floor, i did it with a couple of FBT 12'' speakers, a 4 meter rig with 4 scan type effects. Very nice venue actually. Pretty straightforward really.

I don't know the place, but a sub is never over the top, I would apprecheate using one in the house (15") ... I don't like to see DJs just using tops, as if the room is larger than a house living room, bass is not brilliant.

I don't use just tops. I use 15" RCF full range speakers, which are more than adequate for most venues.

I Know another DJ who has the 750w 15" RCFs, and he thinks they're something special - apparently you don't need a sub with them.

I have heard Carlsbro Gammas 12" 300w per side, played in a small function room, and yes they're loud enough, but the bass would have been a lot better with a bass cone.

Max, I've said before, not all full range cabs need subs as a matter of course.
Darren says his RCF's don't and I have no reason to argue with that. I've got some huge single 15" Class D's, and they don't need subs either, ask Justin.
And if I want to cheat, I've got some twin 15" Class D's which, though technically "Tops" are in effect their own subs! ;) :D :D It depends on venue, audience, function and space in vehicle and venue. I often take the twin 15" cabs to venues with limited space, as they've got a tiny footprint, and they fit under the crossbar.

Depends what you call sub.

Anything under 80hz is classed as sub bass as far as I know.

The way I see it is, if the LF driver is in a small-ish cab, I would guess and say it would need a larger xmax than normal (maximum displacement of the cone from one point to another) to get those deeper notes. The sacrifice is that you need more power to achieve this, hence the 500 watts rms.

That could be the reason why the bass driver needs 500 watts rms to acheive the the 45hz the cab does down to. To me this means the speaker is sligtly less efficient but will go deeper with more power. To be honest, you dont really need anything below 40hz unless you are a bass nut (like myself) then you dont really need anything lower than 30hz.

To me, the Art 525-A seems like a good all rounder for most gigs and can get away without subs unless the room is larger than normal, which is where the Art 705-AS comes in to play. :)

I Can only give a proper opinion on Speakers which I have heard, so I have to go on what I've heard. I Do apprecheate hearing your views about particular speakers, as it gives some idea of how they sound.

The RCFs seem very popular on the forum, class D gets mentioned a lot, and also W Audio / Warrior, which I'd imagen is value for money.

I haven't really heard much about Class D before, I only knew that they made amps for SRM 450 V2s etc.

So anyway, I reckon that taking a sub would have sounded better as there was a lot of wood in the building and it did sound a little hollow. Having said that we had to finish at 11pm as there are local residents in the area and it was a Thursday.

It took us 2 hours to get there....what a nightmare! Sat nav said just over an hour, so I left at around 4:20pm and we got there at 6:20pm, 20 minutes late, but luckily the speeches etc over ran, so it wasn't a problem.

Really nice venue and friendly staff too.

Originally the B&G were going to do the Ipod wedding, but I managed to talk them round and the bride came up at the end and said we had "made the evening", which was really nice.
