Hi. :)

Right:

Im running an original DN HD2500 (bought Jan 2008 - not updated) with serato Scratch on a fast mac laptop.

I have burn the cd files to mp3 and the Denon reads them off a memory stick, thus controlling the serato.

My problem is at at least once a gig the Denon freezes on the track and although navigation is still functional it will not reselect the mp3 track or effectively start and stop the track on the laptop.

I have had to resort to playing a couple of tracks in itunes until it regains consciousness. It seems like a software/hardware glitch in the denon?

All phono connections to and from the serato box are OK as this causes problems sometimes.

I do not think it is the laptop as that all works fine.

do you think i need new firmware or something?

Ta :)

Right, firstly...sorry to hear that you are having problems with the Denon.
Now, I don't mean to be sarcastic but firmware updates are there for a reason so it's worth doing them.
Secondly, and this could be totally wrong but.... Are you saying that you have a memory stick and playing off that? I've never tried that as I have 2 x 360gb Hard Drives connected to mine via a powered USB. I was under the impression (and from what I read everywhere else) that the more power supplied, the easier and smoother it is?

Have you posted your problems on the Denon forums? They are quite helpful and should be able to advise you properly.

I had something happen on saturday which was totally weird. I plugged the Denon into a 4 way extension lead, turned the unit on and the display lit up but the Denon emblem wasn't there and then the screen started flashing. I wondered what was going on so unplugged it and then tried it in a different socket...all was fine?

Update the firmware would be the first thing to do.

Are you using a powered hub for the USB stick?

What version of Serato are you using?

I've had a few hiccups with the Denon HD 2500 and Serato. Personally I wouldn't bother using timecode MP3's, use the MIDI mapping instead, it'll be better than what your doing.

A better solution would be to sell it, and buy the Pioneer SEP C1, it runs natively with Serato 1.9 and above. Its certainly the best controller on the market at the moment for Serato!

No just a hub and stick  all seems OK 99% of the time?

So you think its the time code? How do i run it natively with scratch?

Using Scratch.

What about this:

use the MIDI mapping instead

How do you do that? I like my current set up as i can use it as a music player and controller at the same time.

i would say mp3 is faulty at a guess - easy way is to re rip the cd and try again maybe worth trying as a wav file

Hook the HD 2500 to your PC via a USB cable, install the ASIO drivers and then select PC from the source mode on the controller.

This mode won't let you use the internal HDD on the Denon, it's purely a controller then for Serato.

i have a mac which confuses the issue. i really bought the serato so i can use both. I would like to move to just the denon but i like the interactivness of the serato.

I ideally want to use them both at the same time as it also minimizes my risk if either fails on me as i can switch via the mixer. no sure if i would just want it as a controller as i may as well by vestax and itch instead
