Hi all, I was thinking of getting the new Actor DX system but have been told by a dealer that there have been some problems with it and that HK made a mistake bringing it out because the ESYS EPX was no different in sound but was alot cheaper and has 4 active subs instead of 2 (+2 passive) like the Actor. Can this be the case because the Actor has 800w more and cabs are birch ply and not mdf like the ESYS EPX?

At the moment I have Matrix str amps @ 3000w, 2400 and 1200w rms with a driverack pa driving 4 18" Collosus XB's 2 horn loaded 10's plus 2 horns and 4 bullet tweeters and its just too heavy for me now (amp rack about 100kgs) as I have had cancer and now in remission but just dont have the strength I used to have. The system sounds very clear, I did have a listen to the RCF, Mackie active cabs and JBL EON and thought they sounded rubbish compared to my sound, just hope the HK audio systems have that nice clear sound that I want with good thump!

Anyone heard any of these HK systems that can comment would be appreciated, thanks. :bang:

Hi Dave

I've had my Actor DX system for 4 years now.

I had a problem with one of the amp units that was sent back under warranty and was repaired no problem.

Other than that fantastic system, great sound.

I've done gigs up to 400 - 500 people and it copes (admittedly i could have done with a little bit more, but ample volume on the dance floor area).

I don't have any experience of the ESYS EPX system, since having the actor system i've been happy with it.

Is this a home brew system because I was going to say have you thought about going reflex? Could go for 2x 15" drivers for bass and get some mid-top cabs which can go on poles on the subs???

I am currently building a system for myself. Currently having problems with 18mm wood splitting which is not good but I'm going for 12" drivers for bass and a dual 8" + comp driver for the mid-high. Nice, small compact system that packs a punch and has a rather low extension. :D

As for the HK gear, I have heard the Projector model but that was years a go now. Did sound OK but that was live bands and not for mobile disco use.

Thanks guys, just read somewhere that the Actor DX subs are Eminence Kappa 15A speakers? 100.5 db/watt is efficient but thought they were a bit cheap for the HK Actor set up @ £80 each! Was expecting B&C stuff :(

Hopefully going to have a listen to some HK on Friday so will report back.
Thanks again and Lee I might get back to you on your offer if i want a system.
