I received this E-Mail this morning and wondered if it was fake.

I am waiting for a tax rebate, but I don't remember giving them my E-Mail address.

After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 344.79 GBP
Your TRN (TAX REFUND NUMBER): UK**/******HMRC**/***, complete the tax return form attached to this message.
After completing the form, submit the form by clicking the SUBMIT button on form and allow us 5-9 business days in order to process it.

Its a scam. I get one of these at least once a week. HMRC have to communicate with you through post for things such as this.

Firstly, how often do HMRC send you correspondence by email rather than in brown envelopes in the traditional post?

Secondly, when have you ever had correspondence from HMRC which did not include your National Insurance Number, Tex Reference Number or even your NAME?

Just over 1 year, my Nan sorts all that stuff out, beacuse I haven't got the foggiest and my she has been doing accounts and other related stuff for over 50 years - best leave it to the expert :D
