DJ meets ups and the like....

After visiting one recently and seeing how much of a laugh it is and also the chance to network with the right sort of djs in the local or not so local area I was just wondering the following.....

*Do you attend any "gathering of select djs" Im not talking plasma or bpm here...
*WHich ones too, are they any good
*If not why not?
*Can I Come :D

As Ive said Ive only attended one here (Cotswold Curry Club). Sat down had a few beers, nice bit of grub and exchanged ideas with people that know what they are talking about. All it cost me was the drive down to thornbury and food. (Drinks was on the host). If your smart enough Im sure you can write this off as expenses too.

Indeed, its hard having a decent convesation about the advantages of LED lighting with my "normal friends". Evenings like this are brilliant. The daft thing is the worse outcome of this is you give up a couple of hours one night during the week.

Ive only been to BPM previously but not because I didnt see any value in such meetings as the one Ive been to but I just didnt know about them. Good thing about this forum is that we can share that information.

I'd be interested particularly in James, Scott and Adam F's answers as I know of one happeaning soon in Gloucester (yet to be confirmed but looking very likely) and they could gain alot from such events.

You can't beat a good bit of networking and social get together that's what i say :D As darren has said i wish more people were up for them and made the effort as they really can help.

I generally try to make it to as many of the events and get togethers as possible and have gained some great friends and knowledge through them - Sadly i've always been working or had meetings booked in when the curry club has been getting together but you never know one day... :D

Thats my answer :) - I would travel to them, such as BPM, but i always forget and end up taking bookings. Is there none in the north that are in the quiet time of years (i.e. Jan, Feb, Mar)?

I'd love to be able to go to some of these to meet other DJs & forum members, but the trouble is I can never make them as I'm out working 5 or 6 nights a week...and they never seem to be on the nights when I'm free.

It would be great to have some DAYTIME meet ups, such as lunchtime for a curry & a drink, as I'd have no trouble being able to attend those. I guess they wouldn't be very popular, though, as the majority of DJs seem to have a daytime job.

I've met a number of forum regulars though, including a couple I've roadied for, some when I've been buying or selling gear & others when they've come along to one of my quiz nights.

I'd love to meet more forum members, but this is most likely to be at daytime events...PLASA & BPM being the obvious ones.

NADJ meet in the North West every month, have a look on the NADJ website for dates.

Same here, I try to get to everything. I do have a full time job too, that does hinder some plans, but when I'm free I'll be at anything I can.

As mentioned, because of some work commitments, I can't get to most of the curry clubs due to distance, as I work in central Birmingham 'till 6 every day.

For a Midlands meet, I am planning something, and have spoke with Danno too regarding it. It won't be until September at the earliest though. I know a few guys off here came to the last one I organised & I'm sure it was worth while to them.

Some of us keep banging on about BPM, but for this much notice, there's no excuse for people to not make it.
This year there should be a fair few of us off here going, so is the perfect chance to network, and with local hotels as cheap as £30 a night (normally cheaper than that too), its a great chance to have a night out on the Sunday evening to enjoy a few :beer1: and have a laugh with like minded DJs.

Sadly two of my best friends are respectively in a Rock n Roll Band and an Entertainment Agent so a lot of my conversations are errr---entertainment based.

I would be interested in another MDA meet up some time--enjoyed the last one some years ago at Richies--but probably have to be midweek or off peak.

I dont do Disco Seminars / Trade Shows as im more interested in live music
shows ( Birmingham Music Show November) as I tend to use my local Disco shop for updates on the latest lighting etc.

I know they all have a sales "agenda" but I can cope with that;)

As for Kent area, there is already a bi-monthly meet which is done by SEDA so I go to them, look at new gear, attempt to talk to new people even though my bottle soon pops (ie getting nervous).

There's meets all over the place, if you keep your eye on whats going on. I try to get to as many as I can, even travelling to South Wales (anything between 60-90 miles away) most months for the NADJ meetings.
