I have noticed quite a few DJs, and other forms of entertainment like inflatables etc, blocking up Fire Exits.
Is this allowed ?

Hi there Jack. Please introduce your self in the newbies section. :)
Thanks, will get round to it ASAP, just felt I needed to clear that up. :)
I was in M&S cafe once eating a sandwich that I had purchased in store (not in the cafe) also drinking a coffee from the cafe.
As usual they pointed out to me that I was violating some rule or other by doing this ... so i then pointed out to them they had a child seat blocking their fire exit. They got very defensive very quickly, but I stood my ground and made them move it.
Then I voted with my feet and didn't go back for 6 months.

It's something that no-one thinks about, but in an emergency, and a stampede towards the exit - you can imagine how vitally important it would be to have the exits clear.

Absolutely. Though now all my music is backed up on HD at home, I wouldn't have to do the 100 metres dash carrying eight boxes of CD's. :D :D

I don't have Fire Exits in any of the bedrooms, what a stupid thing to suggest. This is a house, not some shopping centre.

I know Max asks some stupid questions sometimes but I can see where he's coming from as I too have witnessed DJs, KJs and bands obstructing fire exits before especially in small pubs.
In fact, at a small pub about a mile from me I did a karaoke one night. When I got there I asked the guv'nor where I should set up and he told me to set up in the corner - in front of the fire exit! I told him I couldn't do that as I'd be blocking the fire exit. He replied "It's okay, mate. Nobody uses that door anyway"! I thought "They would if the place was on fire!". In the end I set up about six foot to the side of the door so it could be used in an emergency.
Funny enough, never went there again!
But, to answer Max's question, no it's not allowed. It's a hazard and a health and safety risk. Don't do it!

I'm not going to post my opinion, as I don't believe this is a serious thread.
Apologies if I'm wrong.

Ive had it before where Ive been told to "not worry about blocking the fire escape". Naturally in the day job its one thing I have to keep nagging my staff about so Im hardly going to go doing it myself.
Of course if Max is going to go blocking an fire escape he'll need to buy some equipment to block it with first, and then a booking..................

Firstly you've said stupid questions, then you've said it's wrong to block fire exits. Make Your Mind Up

In Max's defence, he never said that he was going to go and block fire exits. He simply commented that he'd seen others do it and asked if it was allowed:

Fair comment in my opinion.

Max please refrain from doing childish things such as altering peoples login names in quotes such as you did in this thread
pp timewasting entertainmentsfor example.
You send me a PM asking when you will be removed from the sin bin & then a day or so later you do this. It's not exactly going to do you any favours.

And why did you highlight and underline the word "witnessed"? That makes no sense at all.
I was actually trying to stick up for you on this one. With a reply like that I'm wondering why I bothered. Maybe the others on here are right. You're just not worth the effort.

On the flip side, the one advantage of blocking a fire exit is that you can be first out :D
Oh, sorry, went into "Max Mode" for a second there... :bang:

It isn't about sticking up for anyone, the question topic was about Fire Exits in General, you said that My Questions were stupid, most would also class that a negative.

No Max you can't block a fire exit. Others that do are technically breaking the law if the exit is marked and the sign above lit. However some venue's that insist you setup infront of it you can make a walkthrough space by having maybe one speaker further over than normal tape down the cables and that would allow access to the exit in an emergancy. Im not sure how much space you have to leave but I normally leave about 3foot if im forced to do this.
On a similar note I noticed the inhouse lighting and sound company at one of my regular venues didnt tape down their cables across a fire exit and they were fined for it. Now it is always gaffered whenever I play there so I always do the same now and tape down cables and leave an walkthrough area.

You have just emailed me this, why post it here - isn't that a bit repetitive? .
Firstly, you need to learn the difference between a PM & an email. Secondly, I posted it here first & I did so so that it was public knowledge that you have been reprimanded for playing silly buggers (again). If people appear to be allowed to run rough shod all over the forum with no come back from admin or mods, other members will then think it's OK for them to do it. Yes that sort of thing has been done before, but it has been a joke. It was evident from the wording that yours was not, & was in fact a dig at ppentertainments.
You also appear to be trying your best to wind up DazzyD. Stop it.
You will note that I didn't post the entire contents of the PM as the remainder was intended (as the P in PM stands for) to be PERSONAL.
Enough is enough. None of this is helping you get full membership restored in any way.
For the benefit of everyone else, if you think Max's posts or questions are stupid, ignore them. The only exception to this should be if he suggests anything illegal or dangerous. In this case, please notify a moderator or admin &/or use the report this post facility.

It's advisable not to block any. What happens if somebody doesn't get out because their nearest & safest way out is blocked by a disco? Some how I can't see £5m PLI covering you for someone's death.
If a fire did break out there is no guarantee that it will not block safe passage to the other exit.
If the venue owner / manager gives you no alternative other than to set up in front of a fire exit, do so in a way that allows enough room behind your rig to allow easy access to said exit.

i meant when you are in a room with 3 or 4 exits rather than just 2.
not ideal but sometimes you dont have any options.

Yeah, I suppose, but there's still no guarantee that a fire wouldn't block the access to the remaining 2 or 3 exits other than the one that you are blocking.

THing is its all well and good setting to the side of a fire exit but think about where people are going to come running towards the exit such a thing happean. You can still be in the way and causing hold ups.

Especially applicable if Callum (CB) is the DJ :sj:
