View Full Version : Too much black?

This got me thinking.

A lot, if not all us have a black frontage with a black deckstand (or booth), black speakers etc.

Just seems like too much black in my opinion. To be honest, I prefer Tony's rig to a lot on here mainly because of the use of purple speakers. Totally different and stands out from the crowd.

What do you lot think?

I personally think bland colours like Black & White have an elegance about them for the job we do. I think when you start turning up with red speakers ect your setup could look cheap and very fisher price like even though your speakers could be the dogs hairys.

I like to maintain a clean & classy setup.

I guess that's a bit of a problem who DJ's use Void or FK1 and I know of a few DJ's use them. Same goes with grey that Void also use. lol

The very reason that Turbosound changed from their legendary blue, to black.

I think the equipment needs to blend in to the background so people focus on the music and lightshow.

If I had sky-blue-pink-with-yellow-polka-dots rig I think people's attention might be on my setup a little more than I would like!

Black is best (imho).

I think black kit set-up looks more pro, if you comapred it to me turning up with a pocka dot front cloth :D

Most audio equipment, even in the household, is black, white or grey. The thing is that toys tend to be different colours - so 'colourful' equipment wouldn't have a 'pro' image.

I agree. Black is white is simple yet effective.

Completely agree.

You won't find a colour that looks more classy than black.

What kind of venue would yellow speakers look good in then?

Because yellow is the most visually stimulating colour to the human eye ? ;)

You really don't colour-coordinate your rig with the venue's decor, do you?

Hey. Maybe that's it. Maybe there's a market for clip-on covers for DJ kit so we can match up with the venue. Like mobile phone covers but for DJs! It's my idea - you're not having it! I'm now off to patent my designs!

:D :D

Isn't green meant to be relaxing and peaceful? Let's all use green kit and there will be less trouble at gigs! No more aggrevated drunks! What a great vision for the future of our industry! :p

I'll take your word for it!

It is indeed the most relaxing colour...because it's right in the middle of the colour spectrum.

However, I'm not sure that would make it a good colour for our kit.

After all...we want people to be lively & get on the dancefloor, not sit on their chairs all relaxed & calm!

Legoland?

You might have something there!

Discos are supposed to be dark, so black I guess helps that to happen.
It looks quite professional, and I like the colour in general.

The lights (beams/bulbs etc) tend to be colourful anyway.

and yes Tom, I do rather admire Tony's Sound System :D

Perhaps a few more years of Saving up

You can get the TXD range in blue or a very dark grey.

That, and some woodwork skills also. ;)

Not sure how much those 1850 bass drivers go for but I think it's around the £300 per driver. lol.

That mixed with a large enough amp to power the beasts, if you want to go this route, you will need to a LOT of saving. lol.
