View Full Version : MIDLANDS meet up - 8th September 2009

Adam_F

Right.....

It's been a few months since Wayno kindly devoted some of his time to organise a meet up for us Midland folk.

I'm up for doing like a did a few years back, and hosting another one, and opening up HTFR after hours for us.
The format would be the same as I did last time, so its very informal, and a chance to network in a DJ related environment, while having a play with some kit, and having some speaker & lighting demo's.

I'm looking at September, but what days/dates are people interested in, and also, who'd be up for coming???

To confirm, it'd be central Birmingham.

Count Me In! Playing in a Boys toys shop sounds like a good idea to me :D:D:D

I can't do Monday, Wednesday or Friday nights, but an other time is fine.

I'm up for a visit!

Take it this would be a week night?

If so then I'm pretty flexible date wise

Apart from the 20-24th ;) :D :D

I'm not free at all really. I go back to school on 7th September and cannot drive yet, so that sucks.

Early Sep (1st - 4th) I'm available, as i'm still off school - depends if I can get a lift up there.

Nice to see lot's of people are keen for this then :beer1:

A Tuesday or Wednesday is looking like a favourite.

Will see what the response is like on t'other forums too, before the exact date is set (obviously it's got to be suitable with HTFR too, as I've got to persuade staff to work over  so don't moan at just me if its a date that you can't make :p ).

Would be good. There's plenty of places around.

This is a great place http://www.jimmyspices.co.uk/jimmy_spices_birmingham_home.html we used after the NADJ show.

If we get an idea of numbers I'll get a table booked.

Yep, as Paul has mentioned, we have a free carpark, and on the road outside its free after 6pm too.

Ah, I'm going to be training it down....

Only about a 7 min walk from New Sreet station, remind me closer to the time, and I'll send you "on foot" directions. (That goes for anyone else thats using the trains too).

Times I guess can be from when we shut, so 6pm ish

If anyone does want to see or hear anything specific, then please let me know, and I'll see what I can do.

Let's get a definite list then of who's coming, and who's wanting to eat:

I've not really stated a time really.

I'd say for 6:30 really.

This is only a casual meeting, with no format, so your not going to miss anything, it's more of a network, with a few product demos if wanted.

Then on for curry/pizza/pasta etc... from 8'ish I guess?

Not booked a table yet, need a final roll call really.

Bonus!

So far someone has mentioned a Martin Wizzard or EFX 500, not managed that, but have the EFX 600 so will be getting that out.

Also will have some RCF active speakers with the RCF sub too, plus a Void Basys V2 system.

Will have my 2 gig boxes set up (1 with a Pioneer MEP 7000 and the DJM 5000 and the other has a Denon DNHD 2500, DNX 500 and the BU 4500 drawers).

If anyone has anything they particular wanted, let me know in a PM, as I'll be setting stuff up tomorrow for demo etc...

Overall, I thought it was a great night.

Many thanks to all who made the trip up (or down) to us. Hope it was worth while for all who attended!

Anyone who had a little play on the DJM 5000, could I ask a little favour and could you PM with your thoughts on it (good and bad). Incedentley that was the first UK showing to the public, no-one else will get hands on with it until it is at BPM!
Also likewise on the MEP 7000 too. Especially Neil, as I'd be interested to know on what you would look for etc... in a media player.

Midlands meet wise, is this something us Midlanders want to continue with? With a few months since Wayno started it up, this was more of a social meet again, to put names to faces, but with enough organisation, we can arrange talks, proper demos etc..... in a venue or something.

Really nice o put faces to names also.

I thought Charlie should have done a gig log though!

His face was a picture when everyone was saying his name, i think he thought he was a celebritiy.

And Darren playing him up telling him it was oxford made me laugh, aswell as Charlie mentioning dropping his ice lolly :D

Thanks to all those who gave me kind words with regards to my "home life" situation aswell.

I was a bit naughty...

Text convo with Charlie:

CB: Have you left yet?
DT: No, Phil is picking me up at 4:30pm

DT thinking quickly on his feet and knowing the reaction from CB...

DT: And anyway, it should only take us an hour to get to Oxford.

Five minutes passes...

CB: What! Hang on, I swear it's Birmingham. Darren, I'm going to bloody Birmingham. Oh for god's sake, I can't get anything right.

(At this point, I am crying with laughter in my lounge with my family looking at me as if I am barking mad)

CB: But I asked you which station in Birmingham...You didn't say it's in Oxford?

(I am still crying but by this time am being chastised by my wife and kids for being mean, so I ring CB and confess)

Was an enjoyable evening. Got to play with some tech I cant afford and meet some of the fellow forum members.

I was blown away by the RCF active speaker, I was unfortunate enough to be stood smack in front of it when they cranked it up to 11! I am seriously considering buying a pair as soon as I have the money.

I am probably in the minority, if not the only person who didnt think that much of the deckstand. Go ahead and flame me for saying this but IMHO its build quality left a lot to be desired for the huge price, I mean were they regular door hinges on it? The tailored velcro starcloth was fantastic though, such a simple use of velco made a huge difference. I dont use a starcloth, I have a plain cloth so I will definately getting some velcro stiched onto a cloth in the next couple of days :D

That wierd Yamaha thingy had me entranced for at least 20 minutes, and you can all thank me for getting them to wire it up.

The MEP 7000 was pretty sweet, I like how it was able to seamlessly blended Calvin Harris with Wham :D Watch this space for a MDD exclusive mash-up ;)

Thank you for your opinion... and i don't see why any one would flame you down for it (hit man on order maybe but flames... naaa to hot lol :D )

Quality wise i would disagree. The deckstand booth is made to a high standard with a tough black powdercoat finish with the welds and joins being as neat as possible and hardly noticeable. It is also made out of a thicker box section compared with other similar products around meaning it is more rugged and able to withstand alot more knocks and bumps out on the road and offer additional support for most gig boxes.

The Hinges are a high grade metal hinge... what more can i say about them. They are fit for purpose and robust - if you have any other ideas on how to hinge the booth together without it looking like a hinge that is used in gates, doors windows etc... i'd be glad to hear it but sadly due to the design it's near impossible to make a hinge that doesn't look like it could be used in a door / gate or any other opening item...

Anyway i'll get off my soap box now :D :soapbox: :D although i do take on board your opinions and thanks for letting us know.

Apologies for not hanging around for long and going for some food, as I was feeling a bit  since Sunday.

Thanks to Adam and Owners/Staff at HTFR.

It was good to meet everyone and get to know some new faces.

All may be interested to know that supplier (decks_co_uk) let me down and didn't in fact have the stock displayed on their web site.

So Adam managed to extract some money from me for the RCF on display and it's partner and I'm sure it made the evening worthwhile for them! :-)
