I like the design, however there seems to be a line of text obscured by the bottom links when viewing the home page in Firefox.

Also, just having just a mobile number for contact doesn't look particularly professional to the public and may well put some people off.

What version of firefox are you on? I have tested it in Firefox 3, which I use and it seems ok.

I have just moved to a new apartment and have neen told its gonna be up to 2 weeks till my landline is active until then I have to stick with the mobile only.

I'm getting no such problem with FF 3.5.2.

Looks good, all I would say is that you could have better alternative content for your flash header on the home page, you've used a still image on all the other page headers so just make another for that page.

Would look better than "An old version of the Flash plugin was detected. Please upgrade your Flash plugin." which is not necessarily true, anyway.

Wow, looks fantastic, mate :D I love the overall appearance of your new website and the colours contrast perfectly. Very very easy website to navigate too which is a BIG plus. I really like that flash element, is it generic or? Were did you buy that flash element from?

Are you getting an 0800 implemented? I have an 0800 number and it only costs me a tenner a month. I get 500 minutes talk time and if I go over the 500 minutes, it only works out about 2-3p per minute.

Best regards,

Neil.

Depending on your mobile provider you can pay for a LIN (Locally Integrated Number). This changes your mobile number to what looks to be a regular PSTN number. Your callers need never know that they're calling a mobile.

I should add that the website looks great.

Cheers

Paul

Nice Sam.

Have you thought about adding a "testimonials" page ;)

Thanks for the feedback, now I just need to attract visitors to the site.

I created it myself Neil. I did mention that in my initial post but it was deleted as it was classed as advertising my services. I did not know that was not allowed. Will teach me for not reading the forum rules :(

Yes I will do thanks to your advice. In fact im gonna contact a few people I have done gigs for and get them to write me testimonials.

Rob, Thanks for the link to the 0800 phone company. Im gonna be getting the landline sorted soon, do you think the 0800 would bring more enquiries? Is it worth it for the monthly cost?

Your post wasn't edited for merely mentioning you designed your website. The comments I deleted were advertising of services, which contravenes the forum rules.

Rob, this doesn't look like a very professional outfit to me.

Bearing in mind that they are supposed to be IT specialists, there is a link on the navigation bar which says "Untitled Page" and it leads to a blank page. I would have thought that an IT specialist could remove duff links from their website!

Thought I'd add an interesting observation to this thread, as I've frequently contributed to 0800 threads previously and recommended Skycom.

Now bear in mind that I only get a few of my enquiries by phone anyway; the majority come via the website or email. I maybe see about 20% of bookings by phone.

About 6 months back, for another venture of mine I needed to have a landline for very occasional incoming customer service type calls. We only have 2 pairs coming into the house, both in use, and BT said it would cost £stoopid to put in new cables because we're right near the end of a very long overhead run out in the sticks. So a little research brought me to Vonage.

For £6 a month I get a VOIP adaptor that sits on my broadband router and provides a POTS phone line with a local number (actually I could have chosen pretty much any area code including London). The call quality and setup times are amazing, especially as I usually only see about 1.5Mbit/s on my line being so far from the exchange. I went for the deal because the minimum sign-up was just 12 months, and Vonage were offering a £60 cashback through Quidco. So not much of a gamble!

Anyway, to the point. Since I had the landline number anyway, I added it to the 0800 number and the mobile number that I had on the VV website. Since then I would estimate that AT LEAST two-thirds of incoming disco-related phone calls come via the landline number and NOT the 0800 or the mobile. I know this to be fact because of the way I have my diverts configured, and that the Vonage service sends voicemail as .wav attachments to my email address (why DO most punters ring DJs on a Friday/Saturday? :bang: = another thread entirely).

If it wasn't for the fact that I have several hundred business cards in circulation that only show the 0800 number and the website, I'd perhaps be thinking of pulling mine about now. But it does only cost me £1 per month rental plus a few calls, which are now averaging out at about £2-3 per month.

Thought I'd share this gem. :o

This sounds good as I was thinking about putting in another line for my "real job"

It's worth looking here for more info on VOIP.

Thanks for the info Martin.

np. The £6 includes a calls package - can't remember the exact details but I think it's free local calls 24x7 (to the same STD as your chosen one, not necessarily to local phones ;) ) and free 01/02/03 calls off-peak to any number.

I can confirm that they are absolutly brilliant.

I2C sorted me out, and they act on behalf of a very large (well known) provider.

I have my 0800 number directed to my mobile. Costs a tad more, but is still brilliant value for money :)

What sort of cost is this?

Do you know if you have the option of having it divert to two different mobile numbers depending on the time of the day?

That's all very interesting, but what does it have to do with cheap 0800 numbers for only £2 a month?

If I wanted an 0800 number & had the choice of BT at £10 a month or a company with a blank page on their website at £2 a month, I know which one I'd go for!

Surely the most important things are service & price?

The post below says it all, really.

Back on topic......

Sam, I think one of your pages contradicts itself, it says you have over 15 years experience at the top and a bit below it says over 14 years, I know it's not much of a difference but it helps keep everything looking professional.

Nice site though....well done. :beer1:

Having looked at the site again, I'm wondering about the repetition.

In other words, with the exception of the enquiries page, all other pages on the website have the following:

Samuel Christian has all of following:

Over 14 years experience
Huge selection of music covering every genre and style
Tracks from the 50s right up to the latest releases
State of the art sound and lighting systems
Fully PAT tested equipment
Public liability insurance (up to £10 million)
100% legally purchased music
