Seasonal rates are when?

Hi,

I am getting out of being an agent as i doing more and more corporate and upper class weddings. Previously i could have chosen the best gig and given the others to another DJ but Im only taking on one at a time and it seems stupid to book a private function for £200-£300 when i can do a wedding for £300-£800.

I was wondering when the wedding seasons are as they seem to last all year at the moment? I reckon my quietest will be Jan-April and late Sept-Early Nov? Who knows as it keeps changing?

Basically when shall i offer a discount and encourage private functions for 2010.

You will always get exceptions to the rule, but I find the main wedding season is from around April until late September.

As for when to give discounts, the only times I charge clients my full rates are for bookings between 1st January & 31st December (unless I know them).

Thats what i was thinking. Maybe offer a discount for Jan/Feb and call it a January sale or something?

As for the rest of the year leave my rates the same. if people want to book me they will.

Yep -mainly weddings, but absolutely dead this year, spoke to a few other DJ's in the area who say the same :confused:

last year i advertised within 30 mile rad of spalding and using the small rig (little 540 RMS kam amp, 2 peavey speakers & a couple of lights for £99.00 - for jan - march ( my normal dead period) I was flat out doing 3 gigs a week for most of them - as this is my backup rig (that touch would is never needed ) its good to get it out there from them bookings i picked up 11 full price bookings, so i think worth while espacially as feb is MOT,Tax n insurance time on teh van :):)

What other ways could you charge less and encourage more gigs?

My set up time has been cut to 30 mins now so thats as good as it could go without sacrificing quality.
