The Hotel Inspector.

Just saw the latest episode where the Inspector visits a boat which doubles as a Hotel. It was moored near Reading so I was wondering if Darren has seen it or heard of it, it's called the African Queen.

Well the point of the thread is that Reading has 13 of the top 30 global brands there and the corporate side of things is massive. Some corporate high flyers were contemplating board meetings and the like there.

It was interesting to see the "other side" of businesses and the fact that there is big money to be earned in the corporate market which is something that a lot of operators (mobile DJ's) have no experience of or indeed the knowledge of how to get into that sort of market.

Funnily enough, Charlie Brown suggested I watch it, which I did the other night and my wife has just been watching the one you mentioned about the boat!

I've never heard of it or seen it, but you are right corporate and conferencing is massive around here.

Reading is a very good place to have a business the recession has had minimal impact, there are some very good people from there :D

Yes house prices have not really dropped , employment is still strong and more companies are looking to move in than out.

IMO the vast majority of mobile DJ's don't have anywhere near the necessary kit or experience to do a 'real' corporate event, there's a world of difference between a Head office event for a large multi national, and the local branch's Christmas knees up

Maybe they don't have the kit, but I'm not sure you can generalise about the experience.

Yes you're right, it didn't come out as I intended it, I didn't mean DJ'ing experience, I was refering to organisational experience and the ability to sell into a corporate client.

In which case I'd probably agree, but I have found that most bigger corporate events are more often than not looked after by event companies, so therefore the DJ doesn't get fully involved in the sales anyway.
