I got an email mistakingly meant for another company on uk disco this morning.
It said this . Can you explain to me why you did
not appear for a booking for my step daughter ___ _____ at the ******* hotel Kirkcaldy on sat.8th. August. Despite calls to you most of which were unanswered. She was assured when she did get to speak too you that you had the booking
and you would fullfill it.
So i replied introducing myself and told him i got this email but dont think its for me.I also asked who the guilty dj company was
The reply said ***** Disco Dunfermline. The e.mail was sent to them but must have been redirected by the site to other companies. My step daughter , who's engagement party it was managed to get throught to them by phone yesterday but she was put on hold then cut off, when she rang back the phone at the other end was lifted then immediately put down. It seems they are determined to give the Mobile discotheque industry a bad name.
Now most of us have heard of this happening before but its not the first time that i know of this company doing that.Im sure most of the local "fife" djs will know who i am refering to here.
You just feel sorry for innocent people let down

absolutely shocking
I don't know what is worse, a badly spoken 'client' or a DJ not turning up
(yes, both as bad as each other)
This is what seperates a Professional from a non Professional.
But for her to accidently send it to you, it seems like it was set up some kind of way, If I booked a disco with 'Freds Discos' ... I wouldn't suddenly email 'Petes Discos' and start complaining, it seems rather unusual.

It's the way UK Disco works - you can post an enquiry through the listings on the website, but unless you check a box (from memory) it will actually post a copy of the enquiry to all eligible companies in the area.
She probably didn't mean to do it.

Yeah. If it's gone through as an enquiry and the company in question only has a basic listing then the message is also sent to others (paid-for listings customers) in that area.
And I'm sure we all know of companies/operators like that. I once had a saturday night off planned but, on the night, I got 3 phone calls from people who had been let down by their DJs. Even more unusual was the fact that all three gigs were in the same village! I covered the first one to phone but couldn't do all three!

I think it's shocking behaviour on the part of any DJ or trade. Acidents and other things in lifes rich tapestry do occasionally prevent a DJ from working but a swift call to the customer or at the very least the venue to explain the circumstances would have been best.
In our job though a high percentage of work comes from word-of-mouth and referrals. This guy now has a room full of guests that will never use him and I am pretty sure they not be long in passing the word around.
I dont mean to be arrogant but these are the sort of guys the rest of the industry should 'gang up' against. I don't mean pop round and give him a sound thrashing. What I mean is by us raising the bar and the customers expectations in any area, the quality operators will lead the way and the guys who are not very good or in this case dont turn up will fall by the wayside.

Yes this is very bad news for the rest of us:(
I wonder how much he charged? It would be interesting to know if they were trying to save money by booking a cheap disco. Just proves that there is more to a disco than price! :)

Most likely.
I've also heard (from the DJ that ultimately ended up coming to the clients rescue), that the client didn't receive a contract. That should have sent alarm bells ringing at the beginning for the client. I know it would for me if I was booking a service for a special occasion. As bad as the situation is with this cowboy DJ, the client should have insisted on the relevent paperwork, then at least she might have a succesful day in court when the cowboy didn't show up.

I'm not sure there's much chance of that now David, since they got the company name wrong altogether

I'm not sure whether most clients are familiar with the contracts etc for Entertainers. When we booked an Entertainer for My Sisters 5th Birthday, high quality paperwork was sent EVERY step of the way (in corporate colours), even when we decided to change the venue.
