Callum, this thread is ludicrous.





We need more information to answer accurately. What type of string? Plastic based ones can be thermoelastic, which means you'd have to specify temperature.

What units of measurement? Imperial? SI? CGS? Angstroms?

Give us more info, and we'll try to help.

Actually the correct answer is half of double the distance between the two ends ;)

This is an easy way to find out:

Run a tape measure from one end of the string to the other, and note the reading.

Divide this length by 2, take half of what's left, and then multiply that by 400% and you have the answer.

Simple!

1) give any old answer ( i would call this stringing you along)

Three pieces of string walk into a bar.

The first piece of string approaches the barman, 'A pint of bitter, thank you.'

To which the barman replies, 'I'm sorry we don't serve pieces of string like you, here'.

He returns to his two friends and tells them the bad news.

Taking umbrage the second piece of string approaches the bar and orders a rum and coke. The barman says to her, 'Look, I told your friend, we don't serve pieces of string like you, here.'


The second piece of string slouches back to her friends and tells them that she, too, has had no luck.

The first two pieces of string turn and look expectantly at the third who, after a moments thought, forms a loop in his middle and threads his upper body through it. After doing this a couple of times he unsplices his top end and messes it all up.

His two friends are bit perturbed at this odd behaviour but watch with interest as he heads towards the bar.

'A pint of Guinness, a pint of your best bitter and a rum and coke, thank you.'

The barman looks at the piece of strong, squints a bit, tilts his head to one side and says, 'Are you a piece of string?'

The piece of string looks the barman dead in the eye and says...
























'No, I'm a frayed knot.'
