why is it that when you are working along side a band . when they are doing there set at least 1 member of the band looks at you as if to say does it sound of or are we doing good. happend to me last night.
last night i had a wedding at a venue called the derwent mannor hotel it was a fantastic do apart from a long load in.
i put up my 4 mtr winch truss with
4 irock 5s hids
2 irock 5b hids
1 1500 strobe
1 duel 100 mw green laser
1 illumination quantum 3d laser 2
1 gamma sub
2 rcf 310a
lots of comments on how nice my rig was and about 5 people mentioned the quantum 3d laser 2
i think i need to get some equipment thats abit lighter

Looks like a nice hotel judging by their site.

I think your comment about the bands is to do their egos. Most bands and live musicians have big egos unlike us lowly mobile DJs! ;)

Actually, most bands are jealous of DJs... I played a gig with Tim Finn (Split Enz and briefly, Crowded House, then Finn with Neil Finn of Croded Huose, etc.), I was in awe, awesome set amazing songs but the vast majority of attendees not dancing (corporate do)... I play the closing hour and have everyone on the floor by the middle of the first track (Grease Megamix).

I don't really get that - it's not just about dancing is it?

That's a good point.

I haven't seen Finn as a solo artist but would think along the lines of Marti Pellow. For a good deal of his solo sets the audience are not dancing but that doesn't mean they are not responding. The proof that they are enjoying it comes in the applause after each track. As DJs the crowd don't clap after every song so we judge a good show as them dancing.

Live artists and DJs are really worlds apart in this respect.

I do get where you coming from there Al, i was working with a duo a couple of weeks ago. All set for them doinbg 2 45 min sets, and me doing half an hour in between, anyway setting up before hand and one of the duo came up and said......... "can you make sure you play crap inbetween our set, as it makes us look bad when everyone sits down when we come back on" - Needless to say, i done the complete opposite (i wasnt planning on ramping it up, but the cheek of the git got my back up :o )
