Anti Riva utility

The title sounds a bit odd but I'm looking for advice on a utility tool that will do the opposite of RIVA FLV.

Basically, I have a number of flash video (FLV) files that I want to be able to play with VDJ but my version on VDJ doesn't handle them so I'm looking for a converter (to AVI or MPEG4 files).

Anyone got any recommendations on a FREE tool that will do the job? I say free as it's only for a one-off show event and I don't really want to pull money out for it.

As always, all advice gratefully accepted!

Google "Super free video convertor"

I use this and it does the same things as some paid for convertors and is good. Doesnt work too well on Vista but if your using XP its great.

Unfortunately, I am using Vista.

I would have thought these utilities would have been 2-a-penny but all the ones I've found so far are paid-for versions.

Any of the techy minded folk on here got any suggestiobs?

At the moment, that's not an option (due to limited funds and not having a copy of XP). However, we are upgrading two of the laptops in January and will be choosing the Windows 7 system which looks to be a lot better than Vista.

Mind you, I've had Vista since it's release and have learned to adapt it to my needs so I'm ok with it now. Still has compatibility issues with some software, though. :(

Hmm. Looks a good system but you have to upload your files and download the results? That might be a bit much for my broadband limits (metered service). A program download would be better (especially one which handles batch conversion) as I have a fair few files to convert.

Thanks for ideas, guys. But there must be a freeware utility out there that someone knows of. I've found loads that convert to FLV but none that convert from FLV.

Actually, I've just had an idea. Maybe I could find a video editor that can load FLV files and offers a choice of output formats? Any ideas of a program that can do that?

The only problem with Windows 7 is that its still build to the same crappy platform. Mr Gates needs to wpe the slate clean and go back to the beginning IMO :)

Mr Gates stepped down as CEO, Chief Software Architect, and Chief Research And Strategy Officer of Microsoft on 27th June 2008 so I don't think he has too much to do with Windows 7 (or any of their stuff now). The new CEO of Microsoft is Steve Ballmer.

He's concentrating on his passion for Philanthrophy with the Bill And Melinda Gates Foundation these days.

Just found out that Gates is still the largest single shareholder of MS and is Chairman of the Board Of Directors so maybe he has still got his finger in the MS pie!

Either way...microshaft as a company needs to scrap the whole platform. No matter how they dress it up, its still old technology ;)

Posting it in here was a tactical ploy. I needed the advice pretty quick and it always seems like more people read the threads in this section as opposed to the techy sections. So I apologise for my deviousness!

I'll have a look at the handbrake suggestion. I remember hearing about it before now you've come to mention it but I'm on doing the kids dinner at the moment so I'll have a look later!
