We are thinking/planning a 70's evening meal for a few friends - about 8 and were wondering what to do as a 4 course meal but I am also looking for items that people would associate with the 70's....say....sweets - like black jacks/fruit salad, sherbet dips and the likes to be dotted around the house......comics and things....
Music is fine.
Food - Prawn C0 cktail (cooked of course :sj:), cheese/pineapple on sticks....not sure if spag bol made an appearance by then.....:p :D
I have a few ideas but would like some others
...so what do you remember from the 70's eating wise, drinks any tips would be helpful as I can't remember back that far....:sj:
Trying to make this night a good one with as many memories of the seventies as possible.

Right not old enough to remember the 70s, but as a trained chef we used to take the mick out of the dated head chef when he came up with "new" menu's
Starter - (bang on) Prawn Cocktail (dont forget the brown bread)
Main - Beef Wellington or Stroganoff
Dessert - Bread & Butter Pudding (with sultanas and custard)

Not sure if this will help......Put Gutterband in Google.
Have a little scoot round their site.Theres some stuff i'm sure you could use.Get some pics of Reliant Robins... Raleigh Choppers.....Etch- A Sketches....Pogo Sticks ....Space Hoppers to pin up on your walls.
The Gutterband is the best 70's show I have ever seen and their Website is nearly as good as the show.

I can. :( :( Watneys red barrel. Party six cans. Websters pennine bitter. (Watch out for Webbo. ;) ). Whitbread trophy bitter ( the pint that thinks it's a quart. ) Mackeson. ( Looks good, tastes good, and by golly it does you good) Babycham. Snowball.

Some good ones on there.
We do a similar recipe to Stroganoff now....but Wellington....love that dish.

I also seem to remember Tennents with the dolly on the can...don't why that sticks in my mind....;) :D

Although I can't remember it myself, I've been told I enjoyed eating Farleys Rusks in the mid 70s. Maybe not for suitable for your party, though (unless there are babies coming)!

Shouldn't that be "Vesta"? Crikey, I remember them. Dried beef curry that you boiled in the bag. I think they did prawn as well but we weren't that extravagant on our house! :p

We thought they were a really upmarket product at the time.How little we knew then. :o :o Since they were crap, I'll have to say it was a marketing triumph.:D :D

Oops! Apologies for missing that one! In my defence the little 'un started crying as I was reading the thread and I was distracted!
I can remember my mam saying "Ah, we've got a bit spare money this week. We'll treat ourselves to some Vesta beef"! Those were the days of lavish living! :D :D :D

Yes, a bit of a Freudian slip there, but they tasted like they'd been made by an engineering company, they didn't bear much of a resemblance to food ;)
