Is it just me or are things dry?

For the past few weeks I have recieved not a single enquiry via email or phone and I am getting a bit concerned that things are starting to drop off. I have had some really good jobs and had loads of positive feedback from them but alot of Dj's around here are complaining of no work and I am beginning to think that the credit crunch is starting to impliment this industry.

Is anybody else struggling for work?

It never fails to amaze me just how erratic the enquiries can be.

Like you, I recently went through a period of about three weeks without a single enquiry, then last week I suddenly had five within two or three days.

I understand how your feeling, I have had no gigs this month at all.

I have 3 next month, 2 in October and 1 in November and then nothing until June 2010 :(

I could do with a fair bit more work for Saturday Nights and if I got enough Friday work I would quit my part-time job as I have to work Friday's.

Around 3 weeks ago I was taking a fair few bookings (for me) which was around 2 a week...but all of a sudden this has stopped.

One lady has phoned up within the past 10 days asking for a quote but unfortunately I was booked for that date already. Not good.

My take on it is that at the moment a lot of people are on holiday, and not planning parties. I started up in July last year and didn't see a dicky bird until September when people returned from holiday and the kids went back to school.

I'm booked up with weddings at the moment throughout Sept/Oct (just under one a week on average, which is enough for me at the moment) - it's going to be interesting to see what else comes in. I'm also doing reasonable business in dry hiring some of my less critical kit for BBQ's, school Fete's, etc.

i get around 6-10 enquirys a week, most lead nowhere but im still usually out most friday & saturday nights, with a few kids parties a month thrown in.

i do notice that the rate of enquirys usually increase once the schools go back from holidays, during the school summer holidays is normally our quietest time for enquirys.

It's been very quiet for the last couple of weeks, but last night I took two bookings (with deposits paid on line) within a hour of each other, overall the trend is definitely downwards though. In my opinion there's a lot of returners to DJ'ing as a result of unemployment, in some ways this has been good, since I've been able to sell off my older kit for decent money and upgrade very cheaply. There's a downside though, the people on a limited budget who would probably have dry hired kit, are now hiring these new DJs for very low fees. Thankfully I have other income streams other than from the entertainment market (see website) that help keep the wolf from the door.

I have had a few quiet weeks but this happens every year. It's the summer holidays etc etc and generally, around a week after they go back, the enquiries start coming in again.

Well I understand that people are on holiday ect so I will just hold out and see if the enquirys pick back up. I have a fair bit of work to see me through the next month or two.

Fairly quiet for discos lately, although a couple of 'good' bookings. Race Nights however are going through the roof. Just had one group pick 3 nights all full and none of them were weekend neither.

Change of seasons helps.

After this weekend folk start thinking Autumn.....Uncle Freds 60th.....Lees leaving to join the Army....The Committee want to get you booked in at a ridiculous rate for Christmas...(How Much??He's only playing a few records thar knows??).

been quiet for last few months, but already got 20 bookings for rest of the year, but in last few days have had confirmed new rock nite at a club in melton mobray (only 4 bookings for the rest of this year and if popular 12 bookings for 2010. and at bike rally last weekend picked up one confirmed booking and several other possibles :):)

Ive spent the last 10 months upgrading my rig n lights and selling of all my old stuff which covered 80% cost of my new rig and I have already noticed maintence costs have dropped by over 50% :):).

Yes the enquiries have dropped off for me recently too.......that said I've closed the diary for 2009 as I have all the dates booked that I want. I also have 19 confirmed for 2010 so I'm fairly happy with things as it stands. :)
