Bank holiday weekend

I have no work on Friday or Saturday, my regular pub quiz on Sunday and a wedding on bank Holiday Monday (my first ever Monday wedding).

What are the rest of you up to?

Friday and Saturday are free at the moment. Sunday I am doing a local nightclub.

Got a footy tournament on Saturday and might go to Chessington on Sunday (and hope they don't have another powercut like they did last week!)

I had my best friend and my son with me and didn't realise we were going to Worcester Park until we were on our way.

I've worked in Easthampstead Park quite a lot this year - in fact the pictures of the led lighting were from there. What was the matter with the banqueting manager?

When I arrived, I went to reception to say who I was and the girl took me round to meet the banqueting manager, and after I'd been introduced to her as the DJ, she just turned away & carried on what she was doing...completely ignoring me. She didn't even say "I'll be with you in a minute" Nothing!

I was expecting her to tell me when & where I'd be setting up, along with anything else she thought I'd need to know.

After standing there for a few minutes I was starting to feel like a bit of a lemon and became concerned I might start growing roots, so I again introduced myself and asked where I would be setting up, where the power sockets were, what time I should finish & how things were proceeding with the meal.

She only took 30 seconds to answer my questions, so I have no idea why she ignored me when I was first introduced to her.

I consider all but Southampton to be fairly local as they're all within an hour and I'm in a rural area, so it's at least 30 mins to anywhere with more than just feilds and farms!

Actually, until this weekend just gone I've had a run of gigs all within about 10 miles of base, which is nice as I've not had to fill the van up with fuel every week!

As I've said before, I'd like to have more, but wouldn't want to do more than suggesting it in several places on my website as well as in my reply to all enquirers. I just wouldn't feel comfortable forcing it on them.

I've always found it better to tell the clients what's available, make suggestions and ask them what they want...rather than telling them "you will have this, you will have that"

18th Birthday party on Saturday in my local venue. The son of the boss of the place, so this is a bit of favour to keep the bookings rolling in ....

Should be a good one and a chance to play some hitting dance tunes and DnB (possibly) instead of the usual Bon jovi / Guns and Roses .. well I have to play those too, just less of the guitar based rock.

I see your point Rob. In my my email reply to enquiries I do say "offer a pre event meeting" and so far all but one has had one. That was because they lived in New Zealand and only came over 2 days before the wedding :eek:

I've heard of it, but I have no problems getting gigs in my preferred area, which is within 15 or 20 miles...so I don't usually NEED to travel further.

I want my gigs to be as easy & hassle free as possible, and having them local is a big part of that.

Because in my opinion people are more likely to have weddings, karaoke, parties, or discos in pubs on a bank holiday Monday than a normal Monday...and those are the events people on this forum cater for.

Don't you think the fact that most people aren't at work on a bank holiday has something to do with it?

As for availability, I'm sure most venues have more availability on normal Mondays than Bank Holiday ones...but I'm still awaiting my first Monday wedding on a NON bank holiday.

I wonder why I've never before done a Monday wedding then, especially as you've given one of the reasons for people booking when they do as availability?

I'd have thought venues (and most other wedding services come to that) would have more availability on normal Mondays than any other days.

I have a Civil Partnership today at a venue I hoping to become a recommended supplier for and then, for the first August Bank Holiday I can remember, I have nothing on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Going to strip the kit, give it a clean and get some PAT testing done and enjoy some time with the family.
