How far away is your average gig?

I'm fortunate in having most of my work within 10-20 miles, but I know many of you travel much further on a regular basis, so just how far DO you travel to the average gig?

On average, 30 - 70 miles from base.

Generally, about less than 10 miles, but if I'm working in Lichfield then it's about 10 -20 miles. If the gig's a bit further away then I would travel up to around 35 miles away.

Generally in the village where i live, so 80% under a mile. The rest, anything up to 50 miles, but these are generally for friends of friends etc who live further out.

Reasins are better paying gigs and don't really like doing local gigs as I find people always expect those 'little extras' as you are local.

My average gigs used to be no more than 30 miles. The furthest I have traveled was to Derbyshire when I covered a gig for Paul.

I don't mind traveling but I am very restricted by Dad. I have turned down a lot of gigs because of the traveling time.

I also have to bear in mind how much it would cost me for a mini bus. :)

I have a club gig every Friday & Saturday night which is 30 miles away, but I would say nearly all our private work (Average 2 discos and 2 karaokes a week) is within 10 miles.

I'm glad I posted this poll, because the results are nothing like I was expecting.

I'm amazed that more than half of you travel 20 miles or less to the average gig. From all the posts I've read about how far lots of you travel, I'd have thought the figure would be more like half what it is.

Similarly, I'm amazed than only one person out of 27 travels more than 50 miles to the average gig.

Why would you be surprised at the fact only one travels on average over 50 miles?

Most of mine are within 20 miles but very rarely more than 30. Mainly because my advertising is all done through google and set to certain locations.

It's purely based on the number of posts I've seen from people who sometimes seem to travel several hundred miles to a gig.

After all, you only need a few of those each year to push up your average distance travelled BIG TIME!

I'd say that I easily average 50-75 miles a gig, (maybe over the course of the year maybe 75 to 100 miles), if you count the total mileage that i'd do getting there and back. :)

Works both ways, do a local one within a mile and you'd have to go 100 miles for the next one to make the average 50. It gets very expensive to hire a decent dj to travel large distances to gigs as well. Not just extra fuel costs but travelling time so Im not surprise at all its only one person.... Which was who by the way?????

And yet clients clearly do it quite a lot, as I've seen many posts here from people who have travelled hundreds of miles to a gig, and presumably charged a fortune due to the big increase in travelling costs & the time involved.

Edit: Didn't you yourself do a gig in Brighton recently? I know you stayed overnight, but how far was that & how long did the journey each way take? Pesumably you increased your charges massively to take account of this?

If you live in the sticks then you are going to have to travel more to get to gigs compared to another DJ who lives more urban?

Yes thats true. I also made it clear it was for an old college friend who I was doing it for as a favour in regards of price

I must have missed that bit then, because I remember you saying it was a civil partnership for an old school friend, but I remember NOTHING about anything to do with the price being mentioned.

Point isn't so much about the price I did it for Rob but the fact the only reason she knew about me was because we are friends on facebook. The average Joe in places further than 50 miles from me aren't going to heard of me. I'm on UK disco but very very very rare someone from outside of gloucestershire is going be asking me to quote.
