Disco listing sites / directories

Thought I'd thrown in a wednesday night question before I nip off to the pub for quiz night. :D

What are peoples opinion on listings and directory sites?

Are there too many of them?

Would you always list if the listing was free?

And how much you be prepared for a sponsored / enhanced listing?

Although they are a vital part of having a web presence there just seems to be more and more spam emails recently

I tend to list on as many free ones as I can, just to get the name out there. I only occasionally get spam, so the pros outweigh the cons for me.

Price-wise, ideally £50 or under.

I think they are brilliant, but I would do...as they bring in about 90% of all my work.

Yes, and there are too many rubbish ones that bring :Censored: all response.



Would you always list if the listing was free?

Absolutely, as you have nothing to lose, and as an absolute minimum it will help with your Google page rank.



And how much you be prepared for a sponsored / enhanced listing?

My most expensive one is about £200 a year.

This might sound a lot, but I advertise on 50 odd sites, so this listing accounts for 2% of my total listings, but brings in a massive 44% of all my enquiries & lots of bookings...so it would still be excellent value even at double the current price.

What makes you think it's all coming from your free listings on mobile disco directories?

Some of it MIGHT just be from people who have harvested your email address from this forum!

Well I'll reply then, but as I know next to nothing about it, unlike yourself, all I can do is concur with Steven and Shaun.

I list on as many sites as possible, as already mentioned, it does help with your placing on search engines. I probably get a dozen or so enquiries a year that have come from free listings. I only have one paid listing, thats with Scoot. Despite being the only paid listing in my area, (so I come up first) I have not had one enquiry from Scoot in over a year. I think it was a mistake, most people I know haven't even heard of them lol.

And what kind of sites do you imagine are returned when you do a search for a DJ on Google?

If they did use google then if you have a listing on here or another listing direcotory your details may come up, that happens with me by looking at my google webmaster queries and clickthroughs

You're right - the Directory Sites do come up. But I'm sure most people would expect to be taken straight to the DJs own website.

Just for interest, I Google Searched for Mobile Discos in London, and here's what came up.

as you can see, the MDD is not staring at you right in the face, but it is there not far from the top :approve:

Actually, it's in second spot. The ones above are either paid for or are local listings.
