Hi people,
I have just been booked for a 13th birthday party and they have asked me to use a UV light as they are using uv body paint etc and I said I would try to get one if I can. I'm looking on ebay and see they range from £15 to £100+

Will something like this be ok for a small venue? or are they just good enough for bedroom djs?

Danno13 has just got a uv cannon so he might have some pics or offer advice on that

I am starting to do uv parties (teenage parties). I have just picked up a couple of led stratos uv lights so I am going to see how they perform at an 18th this weekend if you can wait for pics.

Don't buy it the output is very low and will only make things glow at quite close range. I use 2 ledj uv panels and they are very effective. Or use a 4ft tube or cannon although I think the cannons are being replaced by led these days so may be worth the investment going straight to led panels.

I dont really have much cash to be honest so don't know what I'm going to do. Just bought my first couple of LED lights so I'm skint now. All my equipment is baught cheap as I mainly do voluntry work

A 400w UV cannon will certainly do the job. get the one where the lamp faces forwards the ones that are side on are pants

If you are skint then buy a black light tube. I found a 40w tube was more effective than a Canon. I've also heard a few stories about the lamp exploding in Canons...

There was a batch of cheap chinese lamps around that did explode in a quite spectacular fashion, as with anything though avoid cheap and you should be ok.

I have had the new lamp in mine for the last 2 years and its been great. It will certainly flood the biggest of venues I do with UV no problem.

They get very hot though so be careful

So would a 4ft 40w tube not be any good?

A 4' 40w tube will almost certainly be OK, especially if you can get the ambiant light level down

Yeah a 4 ft tube should be fine but the smaller tubes have a much shorter throw. You can buy uv tubes with standard fittings quite cheap so it may be cheaper to buy a fluerescent tube fitting from B&Q and bu the bulb seperatly.

Agreed. I used one for years and it was probably the cheapest most effective light I've used.

I've got a Sound Lab one, I think it's around 4 feet long and it's fab! I might be selling it soon as it's never been gigged and need the cash :o

I haven't looked at the link yet (shall do soon), but the LED UV Wash Panels are pretty effective, but you'd want to use two or three perhaps.

Well Its just arrived, I just wondered if when I use it the room needs to be pitch black for people to see the effect on their uv body paint etc?

I ask because when I switch it on right now it makes alot of noise and you can hardly see the light at all
