What do you set your speaker dials to ?

Mainly for Active Speaker users, but passive as well.

I have heard some set theirs to the maximum volume required for the room/function, and others leave their set to maximum permanently and just user the "Master" dial/fader.

Just a query really, everyone will have a different answer probably.

Somebody once linked to an excellent article which explained how to set each part of the gain path so that everything goes red at the same time. This means minimum system noise, and best sound.

Basically in my case, amps to a notch less than maximum, master set to a workable level, and control each channel with the fader, leaving room for quiet tracks.

I dont think it is for passives too as they dont have dials!

That's similar to myself.

Amp on maximum, mixer output on 7 or 8 out of 10 so it's keeping outside the red, channel faders on 8 out of 10 and gain controls are used to control differences between levels on different tracks.

In the case of a few very quiet tracks, having the rotary gain on maximum still isn't enough, in which case I'll also push up the channel fader from 8 to 10.

I don't have Actives, but my 2 x Amps go to half (12 O'clock position :D) and my mixer master goes on to '7' and so do my channel faders.

I don't really have to alter them much as I have set Virtual DJ to set every song at '0db'

Actives are set to 12 o'clock and when I go passive, the amps will be set to maximum and I will control the output via the mixer and some other electronic wizardry toys. Lol

Mackies at 12 and Subs at 2 (ish) for me. :)

Tapco's at 12 oclock ( about 50%) DB techs at about 2/3rds and the active sub at 50%. I have the -10db switch on my mixer turned on to make it a quiter signal output this reduces noise and means when when my signal lights on the mixer hit max red the speakers will just flash clip light so I know when to back off without looking at speakers.

When I'm DJ'ing (modern styles anyway) all my faders have to be right up, due to the way I mix, and bring in samples, loops, or even scratching with the upfaders.
Gains control the overall output of each channel.

No, it indicates that I have some music which was recorded at an insufficiently low level.

Yes, I know that Fortunately because I bought a Numark Mixer last year which had gains, as my other mixer (which I've owned for years) doesn't have them funnily enough, and it's a decent 19".

Nice to have though as you can set the faders to wherever you want them, or use the gains as rotary dials for a DIY Option.

You can run each channel and master output full max output if you wanted. You have the trim or gain for each input channel so you can use that to adjust the input level. But you know that already. lol.
