In relation to Darrens "Do you really care?" thread.

Whilst replying i realised that this forum has been a huge part in my attitude, and business shift.

So........how has the forum helped/changed/or other (good and bad) changed you and/or your business.


For me

It got me thinking about:

Risk Assessment
Expansion (Uplighting etc)
Presentation of the disco, to name a few

Its (and individuals) also helped me with:
Writing risk assessments
Improving my admin side of the business (i always confirmed in writing, but had non contract)

Downside....there is one
Its cost me a fortune in equipment :D with all these new toys :)

too right it has- - before i came to the forum i had the "that'll do" attitude,but having had comments (both good and bad) on my efforts and received a lot of good advice off knowledgable people i now put a lot more thought and care into my set-up and gigs and am far more proffesional in my attitude and execution--and judging by client comments it shows

Definitely!

I now send out Booking Forms, T&C's, Music Request Lists.

I have a good PLI policy, my PAT testing gets done properly and my rig is a lot tidier and I have equipment that is a lot more realiable and looks good (even if I do say so myself :D)

I have also had clients comment saying how professional I was and that is all thanks to you guys, who make this an excellent forum.

My main reason for joining the forum was to learn more and therefore improve my business, and it's easily lived up to expectations.

When i first joined i had a big painted black board, which folded up, with Dynamic Discos across the front in White gloss...and it was lit up with UV :o

I used to have a name board aswell. A few weeks on this forum and I soon realised that name boards were in the same league as lightboxes (which I also used) and werent seen as professional so I did away with it. Just have a nice black cloth frontage now.

I've never had a name board, but I've certainly picked up some good ideas from the forum. When I first joined up, the first thing I noticed was how high the bar was actually set, when I looked closer at some of the established DJs. It's easy to fall into the 'big fish in a little pond' syndrome, if you don't get to see the bigger picture.

This forum has deffinatily changed my attitude and is great. I now have all the propper paper work and send out music request sheets etc, I also now keep looking into extras I can add which will interest more people shud as video djing and showing slide shows.

Also this forum and stopped me buying the usual egay rubbish

This forum has been the main force behind the staggering improvement in my rig. For instance, one member told of his disappointment with the cabs I was intending to purchase, which led me to point the van towards Mansfield instead. :D

When you see how far ahead of you others are, then it encourages you to make an effort to catch up.

I have tweeked a lot of my attitudes but I don't think there's any one thing that I've done a dramatic U-turn on (cue people running searches to find a thread where I've said otherwise). What I HAVE done is improved my musical knowledge significantly, and not just for the stuff that I need for the UK market.
