What extras do you offer?

Hi people,
Over the summer I've had alot of bookings and people asking what I can offer so I've been looking at various extras I could do just to make each night special/more exciting for everyone.

My latest is a slide show of pictures which I show on an extra screen in the centre of the table.

I've also been looking at buying some bulk party poppers/confetti cannons as I've noticed some people on here add.

So I just wondered what extras do you offer to the clients?

Sofar I do:-
Slideshow,
Video DJing (Goes down well with the youngens)
and now UV lighting and paints

Seriously though, currently its uplighting, im moving into photo-projection, with a TV for tight spaces, and im looking at dancefloor hire :)

None really, although if they want something specific relating to the disco, I'll do what I can.

However, I'm not interested in offering uplighting, karaoke, gear hire, photography, video, projection or anything else, as I prefer to keep things simple and to be able to put 100% into the actual disco.

I didn't include that, as it is part of the actual disco itself.

I took the OP to mean different things, such as those I mentioned in my previous post.

Well at a push I'd offer to turn up on time, dress smart and hide my battered van out of sight, and to clinch the deal I'd not carry my lights into the venue in cardboard boxes.

As for me, well I can usually knock up a bit of decking for a stage, change the injectors on the genny, or cut the hedge. If they give me a bit of notice, I could lay a patio, garage base, or even a drive. On occasion I've been involved in a spot of rewiring, crowd control, vehicle repair, vehicle recovery, taxi driving and even serving Xmas Dinners. :eek: :D :D

Certainly can, though not sure if you'd be OK on our fold up bed in the spare room? Charlie will tell you what it's like!

Seriously though...my drive needs a repair and reseal and part of my garage floor needs sorting - would you be able to do that in Winter?

Personally, I would operate both Disco and Karaoke.

Quiz Nights, maybe - but not conducted by myself.


It is up to the individual though, some even do Bouncy Castles, Barbeques, Marquees, the full package. But you have got to think on a serious note whether you can cope with it all, and would you really want to do it.

I have been more towards that as the extras sometimes stress me out and transgress to why i am actually there. i have just thrown all my extras in and upped my price. :)

I used to do that and for a while it worked well, but in these cost-conscious times I've gone back to a more modular approach, stripping the package offerings back to just your basic disco and then upselling extras as required. I've done this rather than increase the package prices.

So, extras.

- basic party planning right through to full event project management
- uplighting
- video playout & themes; projection or TFTs (not music videos though)
- video recording & post-processing to DVD
- event photography (by Mrs VV)
- a range of smaller touches such as starcloth backdrops & dividers, confetti cannons, low fog
- karaoke for kids. There's not enough demand for karaoke proper, so I only have the last dozen or so Sunfly's and that seems to be good enough for parties up to about 14 years old.

A lot of my clients aren't based on the Island so I find myself roped into all manner of organisational, sourcing and liaison tasks, all at a competitive hourly rate of course ;)

Uplighting, Dance Floors, PA Hire, Lighting Hire, AV Hire, Starcloth, Drapes & Decor, Chocolate Fountains.

Some I do in-house, others I sub-contract. Have a pretty good network of both fellow DJs and a couple of good local hire companies, so can source most things really, but those are the main ones I advertise as doing.

I don't really offer any extras yet but I have found this website which may come in handy for my regular venue. They have a projection screen I could use to project the words onto a white screen....
