Justin and I are off to Hull, for a Karaoke night, in one of the more upmarket Social Clubs ( No fighting before 9pm ;) ;) ) standing in for someone. It's virtually a walk in, so all the gear's in the car. We're expecting state of the art gear, with a 4metre lioghting rig, apparently. Why don't I believe that? :confused: :( :( I'll let you know how we get on. :D ( If we get back OK. :D )

When im told by venue's they use state of the art equipment I think the art involved wad probably pottery. Never once been impressed by a venues gear yet. But you never know may lucky.

Trust me the place is a dive. I wont lie to you its the truth the equipment is probably one of the most retro discos ive ever seen.

Roost Speakers, Lightscreens flashbanks of lights, ropelights you name it. I know because ive worked in the club myself in there in the past once and i could have used their gear but when i saw the kit. I thought.... No way ill use my own kit so they moved their disco back the venue is horrible the most horrible venue ive ever worked in and the room is upstairs if its the function room.

but the people on the other hand might be alright.

As john says, we'll be lucky if we don't electrocute ourselves! :eek: I'm gonna get a picture of this before we leave. I'm in a timewarp. :D :D With dodgy cables. I plugged Justin into the house PA, and you would not believe the noises we got! Peavey 400 amps, and Soundlab cabs.


We're now running it all through my Berry powered mixer, and my venerable but trusty and beloved Peavey Eurosys 3's. Beats the crap outa the in-house. :D :D

We had a great night, if I showed you piccies of the wiring you wouldn't believe it, there was an earth off one of the banks of FAL Decor boxes ( we remember those, don't we? :D :D ) which was glowing faintly. The four linked effects lights whirred, clicked and groaned, but refused to light, the main efect mounted over the stage did naff all.

Justin was truly cheesed, when after he expected to be running way before me, by simply plugging into the mighty house PA, he found it rattled, crackled, and cut out at random. Rather than check and replace a dozen cables, he admitted defeat, and plugged into a channel om the Berry. :D :D ( He didn't want to do that, cos I then had his master fader in my control and could cut him off on purpose. ( Rather than by accident, as I did most times. :o :D :D ) As a goodwill gesture, I switched on the twinkling net of stars behind him, which looked nice. :D

We had the usual run of rather poor singers, and one who was magnificent, in many ways. She nearly made the evening worthwhile on her own. Great voice, lovely lady. You should have heard her sing "Hallelujah". ;) Very nice crowd overall, in the main, and it was nice to find uses for some kit which retired years ago.

We got a really nice sound from just two old Peavey Eurosys 3's, and it reminded me why I loved them so much back when they were new. Since my radio mics are built into the consoles, I used my old VHF radio mic, and it sounded great. We had zero feedback problems at any point, and the whole setup was in many ways a dream.

It remains to be seen whether Justin will tell all about certain events. ;) :confused: A young lady began to get friendly with him, and to his eternal credit, he showed her his wedding ring. "Oh, I've got one of those too, she said, "that's my husband I'm waving at" :eek: :eek:
And as to what he did with a pint of lager, a radio mic and a laptop, when trying to be chivalrous, well I'll let him tell that one. :D :D :D
